Chapter 8

**Hanna's POV**

We've all been sitting on the beach just talking for about an hour when Carter lifts his hand off of Lexi's and pulls his phone out of his pocket.  He looks at it and his expression completely changes. He looks confused, upset almost.  Matt notices too and practically speaks my mind.

"Hey, man, what's up?" Carter looks up at Matt shocked and shoves his phone back into his pocket.

He swallows hard. "Oh, uh, nothing. Wanna head back towards one of our dorms before it gets dark?"

Matt, Lexi, and I exchange worried looks before nodding in agreement.  We all stand up, brushing sand off our legs as we start walking back.  I look in Carter's direction every once in a while to make sure he's doing ok, and he seems like he's doing better. At least, if he's not, he's hidding it pretty well.  Although it seems teens these days have pretty much become masters at hiding things like that.  Matt and Lexi are having a conversation about where they both moved from, but I'm too focused on Carter to join in.  We reach their dorm and Matt and Lexi walk right in. I yank on Carter's sleeve to keep him outside as Matt closes the door, clueless. 

"Carter, what's going on?" I ask while staring straight into his eyes. He hesitates before answering.

"Well..." he reaches into his pocket and pulls out his phone, pulling up instagram.

**Carter's POV**

I show Hanna the video trying my best not to cry.  Someone recorded me when I was spilling my feelings out to Matt. They got everything. And the caption made it worse.

Look how desperate little Carter is. Not so tough now, are ya Reynolds. Girls, just know if you're ever his girlfriend, it means nothing because he's just doing it so he's not the odd one out.

I looked up from my phone, my eyes watering.  Hanna looks up too and gives me a huge hug. 

"Carter, it's ok. No one is gonna believe that. She just wants attention. It'll all be fine; your fans are smarter than that," she says while still embracing me.

As she lets go, I look into her eyes and say "thank you", but it's barely audible. With that, we both turn around and go into the dorm. Matt and Lexi look up, and they both look completely shocked.

"W-what happened?" Matt asks. I look over at Hanna and realize for the first time that she was crying too.

"Nothing..." I answer, trailing off at the end. Matt is looking at Hanna and I can tell he's extremely scared.

"Matt, it's all good," Hanna tells him as she sits down on the bed right next to Matt. He hugs her, still unsure. I decide to sit on the other bed, next to Lexi.  I grab the remote and turn on the TV, looking through the movie channels.  I stop when I see The Conjuring and I look at everyone for approval. Everyone nods, even though Hanna and Lexi both look uncertain.  I click on the movie which happens to just be starting.  Matt and I both end up having Hanna and Lexi burrying their heads in to us within the first few minutes.  Soon enough, we all fall asleep.
