Kienna

My heavy eyes opened and I blinked in the bright light. I sat up and stretched as I looked around. Out the window I could see that the sun had only been risen for about half an hour. I forced myself out of bed and started to get ready.

Once I was dressed in a silver and blue dress with my hair left loose I went to my desk to respond to Jon. I was eager to finally hear from him. It seemed the ravens coming from The Wall took much longer than normal.

I read over his letter one more time. It was cheery enough, but I couldn't help but wonder if it was the truth. Jon had always tried to make me happy. I got the feeling that even if he was hating The Wall he would tell me he loved it.

I pulled out a fresh piece of parchment and grabbed the quill. My hand instinctively went to dip the tip into the ink, but it hit nothing but the wood of the desk. I looked around, puzzled.

After nearly tearing my room apart I decided it wasn't there. I sat down on my bed a moment, frowning. My inkwell had been there just yesterday when I wrote to Rickon. I sighed before a strange thought popped into my head.

What if Joffrey or Kiara had taken my inkwell away from me? What if they didn't want me having communication with anyone anymore? I shook my head at this idea. I hoped I was just being foolish and stood from my bed.

I grabbed the winter rose Ser Hugh had given me. I was going down to the tournament early. I had learned Ser Hugh had no family in the capitol and wanted to go down to pay my respects. I may have only known the man for a few short seconds, but I still felt he deserved more than to be buried all alone.

I sat in the small tent where Ser Hugh was rested. He was laid out on a table and a pair of Silent Sisters tended to him. I watched in silence as the two sewed the gash in his neck. I was once again thankful for my strong stomach because I imagined any weak woman would have fainted by now.

When I had first entered Ser Barristan Selmy of the Kingsguard had tried to insist I stay outside, but I had convinced him to let me in. A chair was pulled up for me and I sat by Ser Hugh's mid section. After that the two of us stayed in silence until someone else entered.

"Kienna," I heard Lord Stark's voice and turned. "What are you doing here?"

"I thought I would pay my respects." I answered him, holding up the winter rose for him to see. Lord Stark nodded, but likely didn't understand. He hadn't attended the tournament yesterday and didn't see me receive the rose from Ser Hugh.

"Did Ser Hugh have any family in the capital?" Lord Stark asked Ser Barristan.

"No," Ser Barristan replied. "I stood vigil for him myself last night. He had no one else." I swallowed hard. That was exactly why I was here now.

"He'd never worn this armor before," Lord Stark pointed out. I looked over at the armor piled on a table. The shining silver breast plate still had traces of blood.

"Bad luck for him," Ser Barristan added. "Going against the Mountain."

"Who determines the draw?" Lord Stark asked.
