Kienna

I rolled slowly out of bed. I sat up and had to hold on to the edge of my bed to steady myself. The growling of my stomach continued and I let out a huffed breath.

I remembered my words to Joffrey a few days ago. I didn't think the hunger would effect me like this, but my mind was swirling and my legs weak.

I dressed in a light gown. It seemed particularly hot today and every bead of sweat seemed to be pooling already. I tied my hair back into a loose braid and secured it with a ribbon.

I was to serve Mrycella again today. I wandered down into her chambers.

The door was opened and I was hit with the intoxicating smell of food. My stomach growled loudly and my knees shook.

"Kienna," Mrycella smiled up at me. "Please, join us. Enjoy some breakfast."

I sat down across from Mrycella. A plate was placed in front of me and I bit my lip.

Baskets of fresh rolls and fruit sat before me. It took every ounce of self control not to grab it all.

I looked cautiously around the room. I immediately noticed the man in the corner. He was watching me intently and I guessed he was one of Joffrey's spies.

I also noticed Kiara's presence and decided it was best for my sake to reject the cravings for food. Instead I reached for a goblet of sweet juice. I hadn't been denied liquids and needed the little energy the juice could give.

The ladies and Mrycella chatted mindlessly. I didn't pay them much mind. I just sat, enjoying the sunlight that was coming in through the open balcony doors. There was a light breeze as well, and it felt good to have it blowing on my back.

Around midday I started to head for one of the gates. The last two days I had figured out that if I came this way in the late afternoon I was able to sneak out relatively unnoticed. I would go into the markets and buy as much food as I could eat. I still spent a majority of the day hungry, but it was better than nothing.

I immediately noticed the guards looked more awake today. I could usually count on the blazing sun to make them cower in the shade, but not today. I wondered vaguely if Joffrey had learned of my market visits.

I put my head down and tried to walk through, looking at neither of them.

"Ay!" I heard one of them call. I looked up slightly.

"Yes?" I asked casually, pretending to be clueless as to why they stopped me.

"You're Lady Kienna," One of them nodded. I cringed when they recognized me.

"Yes," I put on a sweet smile. "Is there a problem?"

"The Prince told us to not let you out," The other replied. I looked over my shoulder.

"I don't suppose you could simply look the other way..." I suggested in a quiet tone. The two exchanged a glance.

"Lord Joffrey had the last two men who let you through flogged," One of them muttered.
