Maddy and Lana decided that he wasn't too much of a threat: he just sat there, whimpering and weeping. If they released him, he might help them on them on their quest. He was a pretty handy guy.
Lana ran to fetch the key while Maddy stood watch. She stood there nervously, trying to calm Cottus down. His one hundred hands were really distracting. After a few seconds, she heard something stomping toward her. She sprinted to toward the entrance and almost had a head-on collision with Lana. She insisted they go back for Cottus. "Think about how valuable he'll be for the quest!" She hissed, the keys jingling in her hand. Maddy muttered something not very nice under her breath as they ran back to the cell.
They unlocked his cell door, hauled Cottus to his feet, and fled to the exit. Maddy glanced back at the creature chasing them. Even though she never got a good look at it, she knew that the monster was Kampe.
Kampe was a terrifying half-dragon with a woman's head, dragon's body, and a huge scorpion-like tail. She had hissing snakes wrapped around her ankles and carried a scythe.
Maddy, Lana, and Cottus finally passed through the exit with Kampe hot on their heels. In the tunnel, Maddy glanced up at the ceiling to find that it was cracking and collapsing. Lana pointed to a door at the end of the tunnel. Just as they made it past the door, the tunnel's lofty ceiling caved in on itself.
