"....she's my daughter too, I should have a say in this, she has never even met him." An angry female voice can be heard echoing off the golden spires of Olympus.
"It isn't my fault you have yet to bring her to Olympus. It is time for her to be married, I must insist, and this match w.........". Before he could finish his sentence he is cut off.
"Zeus you only desire to make this match to keep your brother happy, you care nothing for our daughter's happiness, and what does YOUR wife have to say on this matter, she is the goddess of marriage after all." She says Hera's name with a certain amount of distaste in her voice.
"Hera has given her approval of the matching, not that I need her permission." Zeus retorts back "Demeter, you must realise, it is time for Persephone to be matched, she would be a queen, it's best for everyone."
Demeter's eyes flash with anger, normally she wouldn't dare go against Zeus' wishes, but in the matter of her daughter, things were vastly different. "I REFUSE to give her up to Hades, I refuse to sentence her to a life of misery by his side, in that horrible place he calls his palace. She deserves to be in the light, in the fresh air, not festering beneath the ground with Hades."
A few lightning bolts streak across the sky as Zeus grows impatient wth Demeter. Before he can respond, Hestia moves to stand by Demeter's side, her voice is calm and patient, but stern just the same. "Brother, calm yourself, Demeter has every right to be concerned for the well-being of her daughter, your anger is displaced."
Lightning flashes in his eyes, but he tries to steady his breathing. Hera moves to his side, not that he cares for her opinions, but he knows she'll give them anyway. "As the goddess of marriage, my opinion should matter the most here, I say it is a worthy match."
"Yes, you both keep saying how this match is such a wondeful idea, but where is Hades in all of this, too cowardly to come and ask me himself for my daughter's hand." Demter's voice dripping with rage.
"He came to me, as Persephone's my daughter my opinion should be all that matters, not to mention as your king......" Again Zeus is cut off before he can finish his sentence, this time by Poseidon.
Poseidon smirks, "Please, still spouting that crap off as your reason to get away with anything, if Demeter doesn't want her daughter cast down into the underworld with our brother, her opinion should be considered. Let Hades be a eunich for all I care, he doesn't deserve to be happy."
As more and more start to take sides, Zeus starts to realise that having this decided out in the open like this was getting him nowhere. He would have to back down for now, or risk yet another all out fight on Olympus, and he wasn't in the mood. "FINE, but mark my word, by winter solstace she WILL be married."
Zeus storms off, leaving the others to think they have won this one. He must quickly get word to Hades, they would have to go about this another way. It would be underhanded, and his daughter might hate him for eternity, but he would see her married to Hades if it was the last thing he did. Maybe a visit to the fates, a few words to them might convince Demeter it was the right choice.
