'Maybe...' "Maybe because you trust me enough to." He wanted to tell her that, then hear the rejection. 'Maybe it was the fire-whiskey that night,' he told her instead.
She gave him a sad smile. 'I didn't drink that night.' Her smile faded, making Draco's chest clench again. 'That kiss... It was a mistake.'
Draco wanted to tell something, but he wasn't sure what. Confess her his love? Say "goodbye"? "I'm sorry"? He opened his mouth, but no sound came out.
Hermione advanced and passed by him, Draco still looking at where she stood seconds ago. "Do it, now!" his heart screamed as it started beating faster.
'Hermione, wait!'
Was he really doing that?
He turned around, facing her. Hermione stopped and was looking at him as well, waiting to hear. Hear... what? Draco wasn't sure what he wanted to say.
'I just wanted you to know that...' He took a deep breath, preparing himself, then looked Hermione into the eyes. 'That it was the most beautiful mistake I've ever done. And I'd do it again anytime.'
He couldn't read her face, not even when she came closer. Hermione looked in his eyes and almost whispered when she spoke.
'Maybe that kiss was a mistake. But this one isn't.'
Then, without a word, Hermione pulled him into a kiss, before Draco could completely understand. But did it even matter?
