One week later, Draco was walking by the lake again. The classes were over and the sun was still shinning. It would have been a nice time for a walk, maybe with a friend, if Draco hadn't kept thinking about her.
Hermione and the kiss. Her silky curly hair, her soft inviting lips. "Stop," he told himself, for the tenth time that day.
He just couldn't put the pieces together. Why would she kiss him? She despised him. "She didn't know it was me." Still, Draco didn't think anymore she didn't have a boyfriend.
He passed by a tree and saw Hermione on the shore, holding her knees to her chest. His chest clenched. He had to tell her everything, everything he thought about her, everything he felt about her. Draco was sure she would understand. But that didn't seem to be a good moment.
Too late, though. Hermione had already seen him. She approached, leaving a few steps between them. Of course she didn't want to be more close to him. than necessary.
'I'm sorry.'
So she had to apologize. 'For what?' he asked.
'For... everything.I shouldn't have kissed you.'
The words kind of hit him like a punch. He'd expected it; of course she'd been thinking that. But still, his feelings had continued to grow stronger and just a thought that Hermione could never be his brought sadness in his heart.
'I... I suppose.'
'Don't get me wrong, but... it wasn't fair. I have a boyfriend.' She lowered her gaze. 'I had a boyfriend.'
That was supposed to make him happier, but the words still burned in his mind. "It wasn't fair". Fair for who? For some reason he didn't understand and didn't want to understand, that made him angry. No, not angry. Jealous.
'What happened?'
He really thought Hermione would tell him? Before he could apologize, she spoke.
'I wrote him a letter and told him everything. We... We decided it's the best to break up.' She smiled, but it lasted only a second. 'I don't even know why I'm telling you this.'
