"Junie.." Jarod's voice pleads through the phone. It's early in the morning, just barely 5am. I'm currently getting ready for school and video chatting with Jarod who happens to be my long time best friend. I put on some dark make-up, enhancing what little beauty I have. I've never been a makeup person, it feels gross and I've always been a more of a tomboy. Back at my old school I was a long distance sprinter on my schools track team. Running is so exhilarating.
"Junie, listen!" Jarod calls to me, his face incredibly close to the screen. I can see his individual pores glistening. I nod at him, showing that I am indeed listening, with a slight roll of my eyes. "All I'm saying is that you don't need to go and get yourself into trouble. Just be the regular you, and you'll be just fine!" He says enthusiastically, but enthusiasm this early in the morning is shot down completely.
"Jurr, it's not like I'm gonna go fuck everyone in the school, it's fine. I just wanna try something different! Be somebody different!" I answer with a long sigh. I can see Jarod's worry, but I think he's over reacting. A little glamor and skin never hurt no one.
"Look, it's perfectly fine, if all goes to hell today, then I'll hide back in my shell. But as of right this second, I'm gonna be wild. Daring." I say finally, smiling to myself. I change into some ripped black jeans and a red and blue half-shirt that says Aliens Exist.
I glance in the mirror with a small smile, studying my figure. Without my usual oversized hoodie, and sweatpants you can actually see my flat stomach, and long legs. All the skin that shows is tan and freckled. My lips are full, and highly noticeable with the color staining them.
"Alright Junie, I need to start heading to school, please be careful, have fun, and don't be nervous! -oh and don't forget breakfast! I love you!" Jarod calls into the phone, pressing his lips to the screen. I laugh and press mine back, leaving a little red stain. "I love you too bro. Don't worry about me" I say, pressing end call.
I walk over to the mirror, sitting down to start taming my tangled brown hair. I wonder really what this year will be like.. all I know is that I sure as hell am not staying under the radar. Before I had to because if I didn't I caused problems.
I get up, snatching up my backpack from my chair and run down the stairs to the kitchen. My mom sits at the table sipping some coffee with my dad, discussing something in perfect French. She sees me walk in and turns towards me smiling. I don't return it. My dads' matching bright blue eyes blink up at me worriedly.
"Sweetheart..I'm sorry, really, I am, but it had to happen. Is this really necessary though? Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean you have to be an ass about it." Mom says in that bittersweet voice.
I don't answer reaching across the counter to grab an apple. I notice her eyes going over my outfit with distaste. "Don't you dare just get up and walk away you little prick!" She growls. Dad opens his mouth but then closes it.
"Bye." I say turning on my heel and making my way out to my car. I probably shouldn't hold it against them, but it pisses me off more than I'd like to admit. They're never home, dad's always gone on business trips and mom is constantly sleeping at hotels or at some friends. So I'm always home alone. Sure moving wouldn't bother them, but it bothers me!
I jump into my red VW beetle and drive to the school, radio on full blast. My voice carries out my rolled down windows as I sing along to Skidrow.
"They call us problem child, we spend our lives on trial, we walk an endless mile, we are the youth gone wild!"
"Fuck yeah!" Some random kid yells at me once I pull into the school parking lot. I roll my eyes and give a half hearted smile, returning his rock-on sign.
I make my way to the front of school, a single earbud pressed into my ear and a watermelon gum in my mouth. I step inside, glancing around and almost smile. It's an absolutely cliché school. Couples making out against lockers, jocks getting homework off some nerdy kid, cheerleaders standing in a little huddle -probably gossiping about anyone and everyone. I sigh. If this ends up being a regular boring school, I might die.
I glance at my schedule, English room 112 with Mr Gagnier. Alright, 112 is over on the right side of the school up the stairs to the left..but..hmm..
"Need some help?" a smooth but deep voice asks. I glance up, my eyes locking with the guy in front of me. His eyes are gray, his hair dark and messy. He's gorgeous to say the least.
I smile at him, biting my lip. "Um..yeah.. do you know where room 112 is?" I ask him softly, laughing on the inside. He gives me a bright smile, "that's where I'm headed, so you can just tag along. My name is Nathan. Nathan Ordeal." He says, leading me down the hallway.
"Juniper Lloyde. I'm new to the area.." I say with a giggle, holding onto his elbow. Girls murmur things as we pass by but I don't care. If they want to say it to my face, they can. I can kick all their asses.
Nathan smiles, continuing to guide me while making some small talk. "Here we are!" He says happily, leading me inside. He takes a seat on the side and I take the seat next to him. We chat, me telling him about where I lived in Florida before and what we did for fun.
He likes to skateboard and play soccer, I like to longboard and run. We both like video games and sleep.
"Um excuse me.." a prissy voice says from behind me. I glance back and almost burst out laughing at the piece of work in front of me. Tall, blonde, short-ass skirt, thick makeup, and a PBF. Permanent Bitch Face.
"Yup?" I ask, fully aware that she's pointing and glaring at the desk I'm sitting at.
"You're in my spot." She snaps, glaring at me. "Lizz, leave the new girl alone, she's fine." Nathan says annoyed, playing with a pencil. I sigh, getting up, but as I get up half way, I sit back down.
"Oh god, I almost forgot that I don't give a fuck!" I say unimpressed. Lizz glares at me, muttering something to herself. I almost laugh again. Lizz sits down nearby, growling. Like..a chihuahua!
I smile, bring out my notebook. A quick high-five to Nathan and I get to note taking. This might be a good year yet.
