I sit back with Nathan (bowman), Henry and Xander (swordsmen). Quinn (Spy) goes ahead and scouts the area, moving in the shadows. Him and Derek will definitely be our most stealthy.
"June" a voice says from behind me. I jump, cursing. "Sorry..just wanted to let you know I found them. They're in a building a few blocks down. But that's the good news.." Quinn says, his eyes glare into mine almost unbearably. They almost seem to be glowing.
"Okay, what's the bad news?" I ask, bracing myself. They can't be dead because I was told we'd all feel it. Quinn sighs, "they're not alone. Two big guys have them tied there. There were bodies everywhere. Dead ones. But they're the only alive people, threats anyways, for miles."
I brush a stray strand of hair back, thinking. It's not a trap, cause there's no way they know about us. Which means, they have a different purpose for them than just death. I wave a hand forward and we all jog down the street, keeping our weapons drawn.
We get to the house and I glance in a window, accessing the situation. Brianne and Derek are both bound and gagged. Derek seems to be trying to comfort Brianne with his eyes, but she looks terrified, tears are pouring from her eyes. I spot the two guys, one huge guy with dark skin, he's completely bald and has a huge mace. The second is light, but no less huge. He has a battle axe, casually thrown across his shoulder like it weighs nothing.
I turn to the group, they all look terrified, but strangely — ready for instructions. It's like we've all been waiting for a video game like this, we're all reacting as if it were a video game. A deranged, twisted, real video game. In a way, that is what this is.. isn't it?
"Alright. Here's what we'll do. Xander, you're going to go through the front door, Nathan, you'll stay with him and provide cover for him. Henry, you Quinn and I will go through the back. You'll attack from the back as Xander and Nathan attack from the front, and Quinn and I will free Brianne and Derek. The goal here is to kill them. This game is kill or be killed, don't hesitate. They're not real. Now let's go!" I say, pulling out my sword and jogging with Henry and Quinn to the back.
We wait three seconds before breaking through a window and running in. Henry leads, rushing straight to Xander's aide. Quinn and I begin to free Brianne and Derek and I glance up to see how things are going. I never even thought to figure out if they knew how to fight.
But my weariness is thrown away as I see them. Henry is fighting the Battle axe. Xander is fighting the Mace, Nathan is aiming but it doesn't look like he's had a clear shot yet. I finish with Brianne, pulling her gag off.
"They're not human!" She cries as soon as she's free. My wide eyes turn to the creatures, confused. I stand up and run forward, trying to help Henry with the Mace-User. He's sweating and panting, dodging as best he can, but there are a few scary looking cuts littering his body.
I kick the creature in the back, hoping it would lose its balance and fall but it doesn't. His head snaps back towards me, his body not even facing me, and I see his black eyes and razor sharp teeth. Razor sharp teeth? They're like little needles. What the hell?
I watch as Henry is thrown across the room and then the creature is right above me. I go to swing the sword, but I wasn't paying attention. It throws the weapon away, and I watch in horror as it all clicks. There's bodies all over, but only pieces of them. Cannibals.
Pain sears through my forearm on my right arm. I glance down, and see the creature tear a chunk out of my arm. I scream, dropping to my knees. The pain is red hot.
It smiles at me as it chews and swallows. Spitting out my jacket. He raises the mace, and I watch in horror as he pulls back to swing it at me. I can't move. I'm frozen. I watch as the mace comes down towards me..but it stops as a sword appears in its chest, piercing through him and twisting.
It falls dead. Henry rushes forward, blood running down his forehead. He picks me up and brings me to Brianne. "Brianne, you're the medic." He states simply. He puts me down, leaving my head in his lap. He brushes my hair back, glancing worriedly. I glance over and watch as Nathan hits the other creature with an arrow to the eye and then Xander behead it. Blood sprays everywhere. It's nothing like the movies. It's far more gruesome.
Everyone turns their attention to me, looking for what to do next, there could be more. I take in a shaky breath, holding the pain back. Stars are dancing across my vision.
"Quinn, you go and check upstairs, see if there are more sleeping. Nathan and Derek, loot the bodies and check the room for useful items. They were cannibals, so I doubt there's any food, but check for water bottles. Xander and Henry, get your wounds checked." I order everyone, and they all nod, no one disagreeing with my judgements. Brianne finishes with wrapping my arm, luckily it wasn't too deep, but it'll leave a nasty scar. I may not be able to use my left arm for awhile.
Henry has a light concussion, and Xander has a bruised rib and a few stitches, but otherwise we're completely unharmed. Brianne has calmed down, and is no longer shaking. We wipe off our weapons and put them away and regroup. Quinn found another upstairs but he took care of him. He had blood sprayed all over him when he came down, his hands were drenched in the crimson red. But he wasn't hurt. Nathan and Derek found some flint and steel, clean cloth, and a few bottles of pills.
Maybe the monsters were addicted to some kind of drug. Even though some of us were in pain, I told them no using any kind of pill until we could figure out what they were. Brianne took them and promised to investigate when we set up camp. She said she knew a way to check them safely but it'd take a few hours. She helped heal up all the small cuts and bruises of everyone, knowing exactly how to handle it all.
Upon seeing a sparkling, I glance up, seeing a necklace laying right next to Brianne. I pick it up, studying it. It has a pink jewel embedded into it. It's a wing-shape, and it's on a cord of black string.
Well done. You've found the first stone. This one is the healers. It will give her the knowledge and tools for this world. Yori says, in my head. Everyone else is looking at watches on their wrists. I hand it to Brianne and she puts it around her neck, pink bubbles popping around it. Her eyes shift from their green to the same pink as the necklace. Red hair and pink eyes with her light skin and freckles, she looks adorable! Though she might freak when she sees her eyes..
Everyone's eyes will change to their stone's color, Yori tells me. I sigh, that's just weird. Why? ..No answer.
"Great. Only 6 more to go." Nathan sighs softly, looking discouraged. I pat him on the shoulder, smiling softly. At least I know he can talk. Once we set up camp, I'll ask them all for their curses.
We start walking down the street, it's daylight so we're not as worried. Well, less worried. We keep walking until we reach the perfect house. It's one-story with one door, and no windows. The perfect camp. We all get inside and lay out sleeping bags that were in our pack. We eat granola bars and jerky, and drink a bottle each of water, also what we found in our bags.
I find out that everyone has a watch that talks to them, like my Yori. Apparently we can communicate through them, text or call, or look stuff up. They were all curious as to why I didn't have one, as was I, til I remembered that mine is in my head. I don't see how that'll help, except that I can't lose mine.
I set up a night-watch, we'll trade off every 2 hours. Starting with me, then Henry, Xander, Nathan, and then Quinn. We leave Derek and Brianne out tonight because of what they've just been through.
I don't ask them about their curses. Something just doesn't seem right about it. It's not like I won't find out soon anyhow.. I'll ask tomorrow. When we're all well rested.
The night is full of crying and soft screams of terror.
