THE WOLF

I am caught in a grappling game of tug and push,

And I don't know how much longer I can hold

The figure on the other side
Glares at me
With its glowing yellow eyes

I need something to help me win
For my flesh has been burning

The figure growls with frustration
It's been months
Months of stalemate
But one will lose

For my flesh has been burning
The figure tugs with mighty might

"No!" I hear myself say, "you will not win!"
The figure smiles slyly
"But you are human.
Humans are weak.
You will become a monster
Just like me."

My breathing grows faster
When I realize why my skin
Had been burning

The figure laughs, "looking at the monster long enough
Makes you a monster."
