Keith was working furiously, typing away on his computer. The new research results just came in and a report was needed. One of his coworkers decided to skip out and so he was left on his own to work on the report. Well not entirely alone, his colleague Lance was sitting at the desk beside him. He sighed, it was a lot of work and he felt himself already grow tired. He was startled out of his concentration when an arm wrapped around his shoulder. "Shall we take a break" a voice whispered in his ear. He looked up to see Lance smirking at him. He scoffed. Lance, however, had other plans and wouldn't take no for an answer, "come on dude, we have been working for hours now" he whined. Keith rolled his eyes, "I can't, this report has to be finished as soon as possible", as much as he wanted to take a break he just couldn't afford it. "How about we make this a little bet?" Lance offered with a devious grin on his face, "I'll help you sort through the files and whoever does it the fastest wins.". At this Keith raised his eyebrow. He glanced over to Lance's computer, he still had several files open and he looked far from done, why would Lance want to help him. "Loser buys lunch" Lance added as he noticed Keith's hesitation.

Of course Keith wouldn't skip a chance of getting free lunch. So a moment later both were sitting at their desk, typing as fast as they could. Keith galnced over to Lance and was shocked at the incredible speed Lance was working through the files, like a well-oiled machine. Keith turned back to his work and began to work even harder than before. "Giving up Keith?" Lance mocked him but focus could be detected in his voice. Keith scoffed "no way I'm giving up a free lunch" he retorted back.

Lance scoffed and glanced at Keith or rather at Keith's computer. He smirked as he saw the pace Keith was working through the files, much slower than him. He smiled to himself already thinking about the lunch Keith would have to get for him. He cracked his knuckles and continued working. The files were processed into a report in mere minutes, that was until he openend up a file about the deeper parts of the ocean. He stopped working and frowned when reading the information in it. Scanning the text in front of him he figured they were looking for creatures living in the deeper parts of the ocean. But one test result stood out to him. They found something. It wasn't good. Apparently there were creatures living in the deeper parts of the ocean, they were described to look like dolphins, but dolphins wouldn't live so deep. Further research would follow.

Keith glanced over to Lance and smirked when he saw Lance was stuck on a certain research file, he was about to tease Lance about it until he saw the look on Lance's face "Lance is there something wrong?" he asked concerned. At the sound of his name Lance flinched and quickly put the file away "yeah yeah I'm fine" he laughed nervously. Keith raised an eyebrow but didn't question it any further. Lance was weird he concluded. They hadn't been working very long together, maybe a month now, but Keith already felt there was something off about the other guy. Well, seeing Lance so disctracted meant he was going to win this bet. Free lunch for him.

As soon as Keith was finished orginizing the files he leaned back in his chair and glanced at the clock. Two in the afternoon. Still time to grab lunch. He smirked at Lance, who was still not finished. "Still not done Lance", a groan escaped Lance's lips as he worked through the last files.

Lance was totally unfocused after Keith caught him reading that file. His mind kept going back. He decided he would figure out what to do with it at home, so he moved to his USB. First lunch. Although he lost the bet, he didn't mind. Keith was a great guy although he wouldn't admit that to Keith of course. "Guess it can't be helped then" he smiled at Keith. Slowly he slipped the USB stick in his pocket. If Keith had seen it, he didn't comment on it. "Guess I'll have to buy you lunch!" Lance tried to sound cheery.

Keith studied the other, ever since Lance started working here, the guy had been acting odd. And this type of behaviour was even stranger than normal. Maybe he was just stressed. Keith sighed and grabbed his coat "I'll pay this time" he mumbled. He looked up at Lance, who was staring at him in confusing before a smirk appeared on his face. Keith groaned mentally. Lance however leaned back in his chair and smirked "didn't know mullet could be such an gentleman"

As they got ready to leave, Keith began to wonder. What had Lance bothered so much?
