Chapter 12- Why me? And Why at All?

"When an animal gets the chance to be a Sa, they are so happy." Kari began. "It is a privilege to become a Sa, exactly as you are privileged to receive one. This means that the once upon a time I was roaming free in the jungle. Though, unlike you, I do not remember terribly much about my past life. To become a Sa, you must say vows and promises to the King and Queen of the Asamri's. Asamri's are animals in the human world, but we call ourselves Asamri's. Just as we call humans, Chonba's. It is just how it is. Then we go through to the station. On the trip, though we don't realise it, we are learning the humans languages. I used to live in Rashmacka, a place in Northern Siberia. That is about as much as I remember of my past life."
"But Kari, why did you come to me?" I asked, starting to get impatient. I asked her to tell me why she came, not to tell me her personal history that she can't even remember!
"I came because, as a Sa, we are summoned by the Royasa (royals in the human language) summoned me here because you are in danger." She bowed her head low. "If you want to know why I came to you and not one of your sister? I do not know that either. I am sorry I can't help you any more Saffire Charlotte."
I looked at her. In danger? I couldn't have been more terrified. What danger?
