Arthur’s POV

I’m going on a quest. I know it’s not a proper quest but I’ve made it out to be so my father will allow me on it. Now my father has seemed to snap out of his trance of being betrayed by Morgana since these attacks he seems to be on the bull and maybe even more then he had ever been before.

This quest is in search of Kalobas which without Gaius cannot make the medicine which will cure Merlin to his same annoying, bantering self. I don’t know why but I have faith in Paul’s medical abilities and since he is from the future I believe he knows what he is talking about.

“Why can’t we come with you sire?” asked Gwaine.

“Paul and I will go alone Gwaine. Not because I don’t trust you or the other knights. I trust you with my life but this quest is going to be too dangerous. I and Paul already put our lives on the line. I need you to stay here protect Camelot and protect my father. An attack can come at any time including the men who have been attacking. I need you to keep on high alert for me. Can you do that Gwaine?” I asked him as I went into my chamber Gwaine following me.

“I can do that sire,” said Gwaine.

“Thank you Gwaine. You know I only want you where your sword skills will come in handy and right now they will be handier here in Camelot,” I said to him and Gwaine nodded to agree with me.

“Let the other knights know ok,” I said to him.

“I will,” said Gwaine before he left my chamber. It feels weird Merlin not hanging around or doing his chores or just being his annoying self which I always seem to say I hate but deep inside I do actually enjoy it. I have to save Merlin. I mean I will never get a servant like him again. He maybe an idiot but he is loyal, he is brave and he doesn’t always look at me as a Prince and sometimes I need that to knock me down a peg to remember it doesn’t matter if I’m prince. I’m meant to protect the kingdom.

I went over to my desk and slumped into the chair putting my head in my hands. This quest is going to be dangerous. Gaius hasn’t even given all details yet but from what I’ve heard I and Paul may not come back alive but I’m not going to watch Merlin die. I can’t do that. I mean I could think of times when Merlin has saved me and also if I was him and he was me he would go and get the ingredient to save me. I maybe a prince but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t do the same for him. It doesn’t matter he is a servant.

Someone knocked on my door. “Come in,” I called. Paul came into the room and he looked a little down.

“Hey Arthur I have to go back to my time again. Well I’ll be brought back in about twenty minutes but I will be back again. I’m going to get Troy to allow me to stay here for longer. Troy has managed to be able to do it now but it will only last for three days. I will disappear on the third day where ever we are but I will be back quite quickly. I need you to understand that and accept it before we go on this mission,” said Paul.

“Of course I accept it. I’m...we are doing this for Merlin and I don’t care if I have to be on my own for a little while. It’s not going to kill me,” I said to Paul.

“I hope it doesn’t but where we are heading they’re gonna be things that will.”

“How bad?” I asked him.

“From what Gaius told me we have to take antidotes encase we are poisoned or attacked. Gaius said he has never tried to make them before but he will get them done by the morning but he said he can’t say they are gonna work a hundred percent. It means if one of us does get poisoned there is every possibility we could die,” said Paul.

“We have to take the chance,” I said to Paul.

“I know we do,” said Paul sadly.
