Merlin’s POV

I backed away knowing I would just get in the way as my magic is still not back to the way it should be and I haven’t had a chance to ask Paul why and clearly I’m still not going to get a chance now.

“Merlin you’re still injured so stay out of the main fights but if you can get some more swords that be very helpful,” called Arthur to me. I nodded to him before I rushed away from the fighting towards the castle to get some more swords the least I can do considering I can’t seem to use my magic and Arthur won’t let me near a sword because I’m not fully recovered. Then again I’ve never been good with a sword.

Just as I reached the courtyard something hit the steps going into the castle. Flames burst into life in front of me, I feel myself being chucked backwards and I hit the ground across the courtyard missing a pillar by inches.

“Well, well, well we meet again Merlin,” laughed a voice which I recognized but I’m not sure why. I looked up to find the two men that had nearly killed me before and making me still feel not completely with it and my magic not working properly.

“Came back to kill me?” I asked them.

“We said we would be. I mean we need to kill you anyway since our plans keep messing up,” he sneered at me.

“What do you mean?” I asked as I struggled to my feet.

“What we mean is, we have been trying to change something here in the past so it will change something in the future now do you understand.”

“Why do you need to kill me?” I asked confused.

“Don’t you see that you’re the one that shape’s Arthur, the one who brings back magic to the Kingdom but also lets Paul’s line of family become too involved in it, who ruins our plans in the future but if we stop that happening then the future will be good for us.”

“Then why did your people try to kill Uther?” I asked.

“Well don’t you see we planned to get rid of you all but Paul ruined that plan again so we went to kill Uther but that failed too, killing Arthur completely may not be an option it may change it too much but killing Uther wouldn’t have it would have made him depressed and he wouldn’t have saved the man that makes everything worse in the future for us but figuring it all out you, Merlin are the one that leads Arthur to do everything he does so if we kill you our plan will succeed.”

“So you came back to actually kill me then?”

“Pretty much,” he sneered

I looked at him and the other guy. What am I going to do? The last time I took them on I nearly died and if hadn’t been for someone showing up I would have died. I’m not fully recovered so I have an even lesser chance of survival. What do I do? Do I let them kill me? Is it a good idea to let them kill me? I mean if my death results in something terrible.

“So much for the almighty warlock you’re meant to be. I don’t see how the legends are true,” they both laughed.

I looked at both of them as one of them charged towards me. Maybe they are right, I have this great destiny but what have I got to show for it? I can’t even save my life how can I have this great destiny and protect Arthur considering I’ve already failed at that already. Without Paul, Arthur would be dead.

“I may not be able to take you down, I may die here but you will never get away with changing the future as long as people like Paul do everything in their power to protect it,” I said to them.

The man tackled me to the floor, I struggle against him. “Just use your powers!” shouted the other guy. The man got off me and made me float in mid air. I whispered a spell trying to use my magic even though I know I can’t. To my surprise I managed to make him fly backwards making me hit the ground hard as his floating spelled stopped but he is also hit the ground too.
