The Random Chronicles

-Prologue-

"Ow." Sam said, after getting scratched by a tree branch she had walked into.

"Don't think we're gonna wanta stay out here." Naomi spoke, slightly quivery and also pissed by the rain. The group swiveled their heads to find a huge mansion in the distance. Dark encircled the area. A faint light illuminated from the dusty overspread windows.

Jenny pointed at it. "Maybe we could ask the owner if we could stay in that mansion?" She suggested, beginning to walk towards it.

"It looks pretty old though. And creepy... And you know what creepy old mansion equals." Alyss noted.

"There could be rats." Sam added.

Naomi's eyes lit up. "I want to see rats, they're quite cute in fact!" She exclaimed. Typical Naomi.

Ella looked at her, slightly chuckling and grinning. "I knew you'd say that."

"Maybe we need to go back the way we came?" Anna said worriedly, pulling her inhaler out of her pocket before taking a breath from it. "Can we go home?"

"Well, to be precise... no. It seems impossible, and since it's getting dark we will have to find some sort of shelter." Naomi wasn't amused by the question, she glowered at Anna and sighed. Anna slapped her over the head to shut her up. Naomi gave her an annoyed stare, and Anna raises her hand threateningly.

"I agree with Anna, let's go back the way we came." Mel said.

"That sounds very wrong." Charlie commented. She loves pointing out when things are "wrong". And not "Oh, that's the wrong answer for the question" wrong. The other kind of wrong.

"Charlie."

"I don't get it." Anna said, confused as always when Charlie says that something is wrong. Only half of the group knew what she meant, and Anna was on the innocent side.

"Let's vote." Sam decided, going back to the subject at hand.

The group was chattering to themselves as Sam spoke up.

"GUYS!" Their heads turned to look at Sam who was dramatically posing like a superhero with her hands on her hips and knee out with a pretend cape whipping in the wind on top of a rock. "We're voting! All in favour of going back?"

Anna and Mel raised their hands, and while Alyss and Jenny were uncertain of this situation, they did not raise their hands. Anna looked around. "This is serious, guys. Something super bad might happen. I mean, just look at the mansion!"

"Pfft, I'll just live in the woods." Naomi says, trying to act bored. "I'm tired of waiting. I'm going, so bye." She began to wander off before tripping on an uprooted tree root which sent her sprawling into the fresh mud.

Alyss sighed. "That's like the sixth time today." She pointed out, glancing at the mud coating Naomi's clothes and limbs.

Naomi grinned. She wasn't actually going to live in the forest.

"It's getting dark." Sam states. "We don't have time to go back, so I say let's check out this mansion."

The others nod in agreement, excluding Anna and Mel.

Mel and Anna share a nervous glance, but say nothing. They both know that they can't stop the others at this point.

And so they start trekking through the mud to where the mansion on the hill lies.
