Almost half an hour of searching finally lead a tired and wary Lament to the guild placement committee, as he got closer to the tall square building, made of bricks and marble columns. There wasn’t even a door, just a semi circular opening at the front of the building, normal mons’ went in, and later on came out with a badge of varying colors. Lament walked in the door, and saw a variety of mons, big, small, flying, slithering and crawling. Some of them were choosing a guild, others were choosing their teammates.
“…agh. (There are more of these things.)” He nervously took a step back, and bumped into something...big.
“Oh, hi there. Are you new?” he turned around, to find a roundish creature, pink, a long tongue hang from its mouth. It had a dopish smile. Seeing this, Lament chuckled in his throat, it was nice to meet someone he would never be afraid of.
"Hmm, yunno, I havent seen you around here before." The creature leaned in on Lament, it casted shadow over him. " You must have just moved here, right?"
"Umm, yeah, from the...(What was it again...) Scorched-"
"Plains!!! Ah yes, we have alot of people coming in from there lately, usually they go to places like Treasure town, or whatever. *stands upright* First time? Or are you familiar with the process?"
"..."
"Its pretty straight forward. *sigh* But I'm too lazy to guide you so, go over to that desk with the freaky-deaky lookin' lizard beast." he points over Laments head, he turns around and sees the desk he spoke of. There wasn't much of a line, as he approached two creatures, one a small green worm carried on the back of a small horse, whose mane was of flames. Both smiling.
As he arrived at the desk, he looked up at the small, krokodile staring down at him. His eyes said,"I don't have time for you, I'm and important person, who deal with important people."
"Uh, I would like to, sign up for something."
"*sigh*" He pushed a small pamplet toward Lament, it was at this moment he realized how short he was, he got on his tip toe and reached for it. It took him awhile to pick it up, giving he doesn't have fingers.
When he finally did get a grip on it, he was discouraged to find he ouldnt read single word, the 'letters' all seemed to have eyes that stared back to him. He gingerly looked up,
"Umm, I'm... new to this thing. Can you explain, please?" he looked down at him,
"Ugh... your ignorance, is digusting..." *facepalms for second* "However, its my job..." he takes the pamplet,"You see kid, I'll break it down for you, there are four different guilds: Explorers, Rescuers,Merchants and...Ugh, Rogues."
"Uh-huh..."
"Each one is pretty striaght forward, rescuers use their strength and caring hearts to rescue, guide, and protect the citizens from rogues, and eachother. Explorers only need to fight when its neccesary, such as hunting down bandits, they spend most of their going to designated locations to retrieve lost items and information about areas their sent to explore, some of them dungeons. They sometimes allow a civilian to tag along. They, however, don't have the authority to make an arrest, thats the rescuers job. Merchants are really the weaklings of the group, they are incharge of the currency, they run exchange between villages and are often leaving their care in the hands of the other two guilds."
"Other two, I thought altogether there were three..."
"Oh, you mean rogues. Rogues, their some good-bad guys, alomst like the mafia, loyal until they find a higher bidder. *his voice takes a depressed tone* No remorse whatsoever, or respect for life in the slightest, they'd kill their own family if the price was high enough. Even someone as innocent as a seven-year-old boy isn't low enough for them. *He begins to dig his claws into the desk, Lament feels his pain and reaches up again to place a comforting hand on his* ..." A tear tries ro force it's way out, but is beaten senseless by the large creatures eyelids. "You have a good heart kid, so, wheres your partner."
"Part....ner?" Lament grew nervous, and remembered back to the pair he passed earlier "But I just moved here, I dont have any friends."
"Tell ya what, i like you kid so I'll do ya one good..." He gave Lament a scroll,"This is a team application, you need the name of you and your partner, the guild your joining, the name of your team, and the moves you both know. Oh and the name of the Guild district you'll be affiliated with. Go find somebody, fill it out, and bring it back by the end of the week. " Laments eyes lit up,
"Really, okay, I'll do it!"
"Oh, and kid..." Lament break his stride for a moment,
"Yeah?"
"Don't trust anyone with a black badge."
Lament, exploded into the village, sometimes chasing down completely random mons' to propose they make a team.
