This was it, graduation. Everyone sat impatiently. They were all eager to get their diplomas and leave the hell that was high school, and so was I. It had taken 13 years of my life to get to this and I was so ready to leave. I was ready to start college and move away to California; I was finally going to start the reality of a dream I'd had for years.

After the ceremony ended, I smiled and shook the hands of people I barely knew. Everyone was congratulating everyone and it was an exciting time for us all. Even the bullies I had grown up with seemed like decent people at the time. A few people were throwing parties, but I had a busy day tomorrow so I headed home and sleep took over my body and mind.

My alarm rang, as it did every morning, at 6:30am. I usually hated waking up early, but there was a difference with today, I was happier. For the first time in a while, I grabbed my running shoes and left for a jog in the park. Summer was approaching, but it seemed slower than normal.

As I started jogging, I thought about my life and how everything had changed in just the past 4 years. I realized that I never had what everyone else did. I'd never had a boyfriend or had sex but it wasn't that I didn't want to. I contemplated getting drunk at a party and hooking up with someone that didn't care about me and that I didn't care about. It seemed easy enough, but I never did.

There were 2 more weeks until June and I needed to find a job to buy my ticket out of the place I had been stuck in my entire life. I checked my watch, the time was nearly 7:30am so I decided to make my way home.

There wasn't any particular job I was looking for, I just wanted one where I could earn enough to make it out. This place felt dead and boring, nothing special ever really happened unless someone died or there was a group of stupid kids looking for trouble. I drove around to see if I could find any signs that said places were hiring. It didn't take long for me to find any. A couple of hours passed and I had given my information to about 10 different places. They all told me the same thing, fill out an application online and they'll give me a call.
