Psalm 19:1-14
God speaks to us through His written Word, The Bible. David knew in his day the written commandments and records of Israel and how God worked among them. But he also looked toward heaven for his instructions. He also looked within himself at his own conscience where he saw a need; so he claimed God's help. God speaks in and through His servants who are dedicated to Him. His Word is a flawless revelation of God. He also looked at nature all around him which portrays His mighty Power and Majesty. A never-ending speech of silence that we may observe daily. David compared the sun to a bridegroom which rises in glory and commands the sky all day and then goes down in a glorious sunset. Nowhere does the sun not reflect heat and light on the earth when it shines upon it. God speaks through His Word, His servants, His nature which He created. Three strong speakers for eternity.
So David began Psalm 19:1-6-(CEB):
"Heaven is declaring God's Glory;" (Romans 1:18-20-we are "without excuse".)
"The sky is proclaiming His Handiwork." (Isaiah 40:22; Genesis 1:6-8-created by God)
"One day gushes the news to the next, and one night informs another what needs to be known." (Psalm 8:3; Psalm 19:2-(NKJV)-"Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge.")
"Of course, no speech, no words-their voices can't be heard-but their sound extends throughout the world; their words reach the ends of the earth.")
Although the sunrise does not verbally say, " Look at me, God created the beautiful sight you see!"; nor does it declare out loud the words, yet, it proclaims the news of the Glory of God without verbs! The same as the sunset cannot speak out loud of God's Glory, but the scene screams to us, "GOD IS MY CREATOR AND I AM HERE TO SHOW YOU HIS GLORY!" No one around the world escapes the rising and setting sun, nor the heavens overhead filled with stars at night and the consistent moon in all its phases. GOD IS A GREAT GOD AND HE CREATED ALL OF THIS! Coincidence? No! Planned? Yes! THE WORD IS TRUE! (Romans 10:18)
David continued with, "God has made a tent in heaven for the sun. The sun is like a groom coming out of his honeymoon suite;" (Ecclesiastes 1:5)
"Like a warrior, it thrills at running its course. It rises in one end of the sky, its circuit is complete at another. Nothing escapes its heat." (Like I said, we are all affected by the sun's rays on the earth.)
Psalm 19:7-11-(NKJV). I will chart this section as it has a deeper message which we need to get
In this list note the Name given for God's Word. See the Character of that word. Finally, understand the Moral Effect of the Word on a receptive individual.
1. The Law of God - Is Perfect - Converting the Soul. (Romans 1:16; John 4:22)
2. The Testimony - Is Sure - Making Wise the Simple. (James 1:5; Psalm 111:7)
3. The Statutes - Are Right - Rejoicing the Heart. (Psalm 109:131)
4. The Commandment - Is Pure - Enlightening the Eyes. (Jeremiah 17:9)
5. The Fear - Is Clean - Enduring Forever. (Proverbs 1:7)
6. The Judgments - Are True - Righteous Altogether. (Philippians 4:8)
7. The Judgments - Are Righteous - Righteous Altogether. (Isaiah 53:1)
(With all of these virtues going for it, David said, "More to be desired are they then gold, yea than much fine gold;" (Psalm 119:72, 127)
"Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. (Judges 14:18-"what is sweeter than honey?").
Still concerning the Word of God:
"Moreover by them your servant is warned, and in keeping of them there is a great reward." (Psalm 119:11, 54, 70-71, 105, 152; Psalm 1:1-6; 2 Timothy 4:7-8).
In Psalm 19:12-14 David concludes with his own confession of possible guilt and praise to God for His help.(TEV)-
"No one can see their own errors; deliver me from hidden faults!" (Psalm 51:1-2; 1 Corinthians 10:12)
"Keep me safe, also, from open sins;" (1 Corinthians 10:12 again)
"Then I shall be perfect and free from terrible sin." (Numbers 15:30; Psalm 119:133)
In conclusion, David prayed, -(TEV)-"MAY MY WORDS AND MY THOUGHTS BE ACCEPTABLE TO YOU, O LORD, MY REFUGE AND MY REDEEMER!" (NCV)-"I HOPE MY WORDS AND THOUGHTS PLEASE YOU, LORD, YOU ARE MY ROCK, THE ONE WHO SAVES ME." (Rock =Strength, Psalm 18:1-2; Redeemer =Defender of family rights.; read Psalm 139:23-24-check me out and lead me Your way; 2 Corinthians 12:9; Psalm 51:15; Isaiah 47:4-"AS FOR OUR REDEEMER, THE LORD OF HOSTS IS HIS NAME, THE HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL." )
Now we find David in perfect union with God rejoicing over the victory because of the WORD OF GOD, THE INTERNAL SEARCH FOR FORGIVENESS, AND THE OUTWARD SIGNS OF NATURE. This brings him to his present state of being.
