Psalm 147:1-20
Perhaps in our praise we experience a closer touch with God and a better understanding of how He feels toward our Praise. Worship is called by many names, but it is the focus of our life, on the Creator's Power and Love which He gives to His creation. He offers a life above this world, yet in this world! A fuller more peaceful existence in a violent, war-torn world. Some call this visionary, But I prefer to call it Reality and the world becomes visionary. We are praising God for our life, our work, our voice, and our breath. Even in hard times, we rise above it and find worship FREES us from anxiety. He is Lord FOREVER AND EVER! HALLELUJAH!
We start Psalm 147:1-6-(NKJV)-with-
"PRAISE THE LORD":
1. "For it is good to sing praises to OUR GOD; for it is PLEASANT and Praise is BEAUTIFUL."
(Psalms 33:1-5; 92:1; 135:3)
2. "The Lord BUILDS UP Jerusalem; He GATHERS TOGETHER the outcasts of Israel."
(Psalm 102:6; Deuteronomy 30:2-3; Nehemiah 1:3-4)
3. "He HEALS the broken-hearted and BINDS UP their wounds."
(Psalm 51:17-"broken and contrite heart...")
4. "He COUNTS the number of the stars; and CALLS THEM ALL BY NAME."
(Isaiah 40:26)
5. "GREAT IS OUR LORD, AND MIGHTY IN POWER, HIS UNDERSTANDING IS INFINITE."
(Psalm 48:1-At the mention of His Name!)
6. "The Lord LIFTS UP the humble; He CASTS the wicked down to the ground."
(Remember Psalm 146:8-9?)
Now we will continue in Psalm 147:7-11-(CEB)- which tells us what to do and what God does.
"Sing to the Lord with thanks; Sing Praises to our God with a lyre!"
(Make music vocally and make it with instruments of musical tones. Did you ever try to lead a group in songs of praise without the guidance of any musical instrument? It can be quite disastrous! The Psalmist knew this also, so he said, "Use an instrument!!!!)
Sing to God because:
1. "God COVERS the skies with CLOUDS,"
(Job 37:16; 38:9)
2. "God makes RAIN for the earth,"
(Job 38:26, 34)
3. "God makes the mountains sprout green GRASS."
(Job 38:4; Genesis 1:11-13)
4. "God gives FOOD TO THE ANIMALS- even the baby RAVENS when they cry out."
(Job 38:4; Matthew 6:26; 10:29)
5. "God DOESN'T PRIZE the strength of a horse,"
(Job 39:19-25; God created them but he doesn't rely on them, for man is greater than all of these.; Psalm 33:17)
6. "God DOESN'T TREASURE the legs of a runner."
(Psalm 33:16)
7. "NO. THE LORD TREASURES THE PEOPLE WHO HONOR HIM, THE PEOPLE WHO WAIT FOR HIS FAITHFUL LOVE."
(Psalm 86:4)
Psalm 147:12-20-(TLB)- follows the same praise pattern but introduces another series of reasons we should Praise God for what He does for us.
"PRAISE THE LORD, JERUSALEM! PRAISE YOUR GOD, ZION!":
1. "He keeps your GATES strong;"
(Psalm 107:20)
2. "He blesses your people."
(Isaiah 54:13)
3. "He keeps your borders safe."
(Isaiah 60:17-18)
4. "And satisfies you with the best wheat."
(Psalm 132:15)
5. "He gives an order, and it comes quickly to earth."
(Job 37:12-13)
6. "He sends Snow as thick as wool,"
(Job 37:6)
7. "And scatters frost like dust."
(Job 38:29)
8. "He sends hail like gravel;"
9. "No one can endure the cold He sends!"
(Job 37:10)
10. "Then He gives a command, and melts the ice,"
(Job 17:17-South wind melts snow and ice)
11. "He sends the wind and the water flows."
(Job 37:10)
12. "He gives His message to Jacob, His instructions, and laws to Israel."
(Malachi 4:4-6; Deuteronomy 33;1-4)
13. "He has not done this for other nations; they do not know His laws."
(Romans 3:21-24; Psalm 107:19)
Then the Psalmist is overwhelmed with GOD'S MIGHTY WORKS, so he shouts,
"PRAISE THE LORD!"
To which I repeat,
"PRAISE THE LORD!"
Begin and end with PRAISE THE LORD!
For GOD'S ETERNAL LOVE NEVER ENDS EVEN AFTER DEATH.
