Psalm 126:1-6
The reason I sometimes deal with short Psalms separately, in parts of my books, is because the message is single and very important. I cannot mix these with another, lest I take away the message they bring to our hearts and minds. Psalm 126 is the song of PRAISE AND WORSHIP for the Israelites when they returned from captivity. It seemed like a dream to God's people! When we read Psalm 137 we find the grief and sorrow they had experienced while in captivity. (This was in Babylon where they wept, hung their musical instruments on trees, refused to sing, and cried for revenge.) But psalm 126 reflects the feeling of release and the joy of deliverance.
So we feel the joy as we read Psalm 126:1-3-(TEV)-
"When the Lord brought us back to Zion, it was like a dream!"
(Freed at last and where they belonged! Home again! God's way to freedom for us is in 1 Chronicles 7:14-"If My people who are called by My Name will humble themselves, and pray, and seek My Face, and turn from their wicked ways: then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." Yes it still works today! Freedom is through obedience!)
The Psalmist continued to show the joy of homecoming in Psalm 126:2-3-
"How we laughed, how we sang for joy!"
(Job 28:21)
"Then the other nations said about us, 'The Lord did great things for them!' "
(When we are happy in Christ, others see our joy and rejoice with us, for they recognize genuine joy; Jeremiah 31:10-13)
"Indeed He did great things for us; How happy we were!"
("Coming Home, Coming Home! Never more to roam; Open wide Your arms of Love- Lord I'm Coming Home!" This was a song we sung nearly every Sunday at the church I attended in my youth. Every service ended with this song. The Joy of the song was genuine in my youth and compelled me to serve God even when things around me seemed to fall apart.)
In verse 4 of Psalm 126(CEB)- we read,
"Lord, change the circumstances for the better, like dry streams in the desert waste."
(TEV) says, "Lord, take us back to our land, just as Your rain brings water back to dry river beds."
("Revive us again! Fill each heart with Your Love, Let each soul be rekindled with fire from above...". Another song from my youth. "Revive us again! Coming Home! This was their prayer for much renewal was needed when they returned. They wanted to be a refreshing stream for the dry area in their hearts to flow out to others as well.)
Psalm 126:5-6-(NKJV)-is special to my own heart:
"THOSE WHO SOW IN TEARS, SHALL REAP IN JOY.
HE WHO CONTINUALLY GOES FORTH WEEPING,
BEARING SEED FOR SOWING,
SHALL DOUBTLESS COME AGAIN WITH REJOICING,
BEARING HIS SHEAVES WITH HIM."
(They had gone to Babylon in tears; Psalm 34:18-but God!; Isaiah 66:1-2-Make a place for God in your heart; Matthew 5:4-God PROMISES comfort for mourning. We go from sorrow and tears of planting the seed and caring for its growth, to happiness over the great harvest God gives us for the work we have done. Bountiful blessings that from One comes so much; from God comes a Harvest of Blessings! That ONE is JESUS CHRIST!)
I cannot close this chapter without telling you that Psalm 126:5-6 was the class song for the graduating class where my husband and I attended college. The song was like this:
"THEY THAT WAIT ON THE LORD SHALL RENEW THEIR STRENGTH,
THEY THAT WAIT ON THE LORD SHALL RENEW THEIR STRENGTH-
HE THAT GOETH FORTH AND WEEPETH,
BEARING PRECIOUS SEED;
SHALL DOUBTLESS COME AGAIN,
SHALL DOUBTLESS COME AGAIN;
WITH REJOICING, WITH REJOICING !
BEARING PRECIOUS SHEAVES WITH HIM!"
As for me, I have seen 60 years of God fulfilling this promise while sowing seed and shedding tears over lives; Praying for God to intervene. He has done what He promised in many as I have received reports back from most of these areas. I see SHEAVES of harvest in those seeds we sowed years ago. Some are spreading seed again and seeing harvests from God! Lord, I'm Coming Home!...
Until I do, here is more seed I need to sow!
"BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST,
AND YOU WILL BE SAVED,
YOU AND YOUR HOUSEHOLD."
