The wind cut through her cloak as if it were made of silk and seemed to leave cold kisses across her skin making her shiver as she wandered towards the large white tree. The tree itself had a rather unwelcoming face carved into the base and had tears of blood running freely towards the soft soil below. She felt the hairs on the back of her neck rise as she listened to the wind brush the leaves together and the grass crunch underneath her black leather boots, but even as it brought her fear it brought her comfort. For centuries, the Starks and the North had believed in the Old Gods, and this is where they worshiped them, the Godswood a place where she knew her ancestors had knelt and prayed for wisdom.
As she knelt on the ground, she could feel the dew slowly seep through her thin leather britches making her shift slightly in discomfort as she looked up at the red leaves the tree bore. Gently she placed her soft hands against the rough bark as if she were trying to draw strength from it "I know that this must seem childish... No, I know that this is childish, but I have no thought as to what I'm doing! I need your help; I know that I am to marry Robert Baratheon, but I don't love him." She hadn't even noticed the lone tear that glided down her face, and it wasn't long before another followed "Love is nothing in this world so maybe I can live without it, but I won't live without loyalty, and he could never be true." The sob that left her lips surprised her, but she silenced herself with the back of her hand until she was just teary eyed. "I am Lyanna Stark, and I deserve better than a man who will be in anyone's bed with mine, help me out of this or give me the strength I need-" she heard a snap of a branch in the trees just beyond the pond that was behind her.
With grace, she quickly stood and wiped at her tears to clear her vision "Who there? Name yourself or face the consequences!" For a moment all that she could hear were the whispers that the trees created in the silence of the dawn until a young man she knew started walking towards her with a curious look. "It's Eddard your elder brother, who just arrived to find his sister missing from their home and quickly set out to find her." Relief seemed to fill her body immediately as Eddard used the stepping stones to cross the pond and pull her into his embrace "Oh Ed I've missed you so, are you here to ride with us to the tourney?" She couldn't help but bury her face in his neck as he softly rubbed her back, his familiar scent of pine and grass engulfing her. "Aye, but everyone is looking for you Lya father is rightly worried along with mother and Robert is helping as well-" she let out a hiss like sound as she gripped him tighter.
Robert was the bane of her existence yet no one saw what she saw, but she knew she was right he would not stay in her bed, and she was not willing to share. "What is he here for Ned he has his own family to ride with! Can I not have a moment of peace without his name or his person being thrown into my mind!" Eddard's eyes widened in surprise, Robert was his friend he'd even go so far as to call him his brother but apparently Lyanna did not share his love for the young man "Lya... is marrying him truly that bad? He loves you all he ever talks of is you; he follows you around to show his emotions to you-" she interrupted him by breaking their embrace and glaring at the ground. Her hands moved to cover her eyes as if she could block hearing and seeing him with this simple gesture. "No one sees it but as soon as we are wed Ned, as soon as I let him between my legs he will grow bored, and you cannot tell me that he is not one for whoring because I know of his bastard daughter." Guilt entered Eddards eyes, and she knew at once it was true that the rumors of his child were true "he's sweet to the child Lyanna-" her hand raised and silenced him at once "you cannot defend him, Ned, for he has been judged and found wanting."
