Prologue:

It was the town on the outskirts of Australia. Nobody knew the name. It was rarely talked about, mostly whispered around by the few locals. Go ask someone from Sydney about this little town called "Daggerhorn" and they would shake their heads and say "what daggerhorn? I know no daggerhorn"

Our little town was a secret. And frankly, we prefer it that way. Most towns nowadays are civilized, technology around every corner, with commercial establishments lining up the sidewalks. Us? We have markets and trading stores. We trade livestock. We pay in small amounts of money, but mostly trade stuff like goat, cheese, etc.

But we do have a few technological advancements. We have school, computer stores if necessary, and a few supermarkets to make out life a little easier. We accept technology, but not in big amounts like most towns and cities. We don't have city lights. We live in fear and rules, like "no going out during 9 in the evening, or the wolf will come and get you."

Other than that we were pretty much the same with other known countries and cities. We wear normal clothes, jeans, shirt, skater skirts, Vans, Converses. We use cellphones, computers if needed. We have internet though very limited.

What's so special about this town? Well, rumours of monsters running around were everywhere. Everyone was getting killed, and for no apparent reason. It started when I was three. My math teacher once got killed, the few girls who didn't treat me good was found in the street. And every once in a while, a civilian you don't know is on the news.

I vaguely remember fragments of such a childhood, for when I think back, all I think about are bright baby blue orbs staring into my green ones.

The murders stop when I was five. And has stopped since. Now I'm 18, I'm legal. And I'm engaged.

Yes, I was arranged married to Alvin Connors. He was the same age as me. His father, a noble policeman. He was rich. Something my mum always wanted for me.

It was the night of winter when everything changed so drastically.

I pull my hair into a ponytail lazily. Looking around for a nameless hoodie, I pull it over my head and some sweatpants. Alvin was coming today, and I didn't wanna dress up for it really. If he was going to get married to me, he should accept me as I am. Someone more comfortable in such a clothes rather than elegant dresses and jewelleries.

I trudge down the stairs, struggling to pull my Vans on my feet. Once my mum sees my choice of clothing, she frowns.

"Angel, change your clothes. Alvin is coming in a few"

"Mum, we're having dinner at home, not at the Queen's palace" I say distastefully. Trust me, Alvin was real nice and a gentleman, but he seems a bit off. As if I feel like he'd betray me in the near future.

"You might as well consider it at that, go get dressed" she pushes and I roll my eyes.

"Whatever mom"

Everything pretty much changed once my dad had remarried. I was so cold and distant with my mom, because I know it was her fault. I was always so close to my dad and she had to go ahead and sleep with another man, ruining it for me.

Don't get me wrong, my father and I still talk, with her amazing new wife, but it seems as if there was just a sudden gap between the two of us. I think it's right to blame my mother for that.

I sigh and sit on the sofa, soon lying down. I felt so tired, my limbs limp and I wanna just close my eyes and fall asleep, dream of baby blue orbs and messy blonde hair but no, I just had to be dragged to dinner.
