"Another letter." Vanessa says. "From Naomi White." She hands me a letter. I sigh, and then I open it.
Dear Lin,
Hi. It's Naomi White. The 20th time. I'm writing to you because I really need your help. I'm begging you. I need a home. I lied to you when I told you I was in a fight at school. I'm a foster kid.
I know that you have a son. You're busy and I don't want you to feel obligated to take me in. But I really need your help. Please? I am begging you.
I need to go. I'm packing to leave. So, if you can, will you please foster me?

Mr. Miranda,
My name is Melanie Rodriguez. I am Naomi's foster mom. I regret to inform that I've got to give my baby up. I am paying her phone bill. So I can keep in contact with her. I love her so much. It pains me to have to send her away.
