Mal's POV
"Harry is furious with me, Evie!" I sobbed into her shoulder. Just yesterday Harry had stocked out of Ben's office, refusing to let me explain. "If he truly loved you, he would be able to forgive you. And did you see his face when you kissed him? He looked like he was at the edge of tears!" "But-" There was an abrupt knock on the door, scaring me a bit. "Come in!" Evie called. I glared at her as a tall, black, messy haired boy walked in. "Harry!" I squealed. I awkwardly skipped slash ran to him, tightly hugging him. "Harry, I'm so sorry! I nev-" "Mal, I don't care anymore. But Ben came to have a chat with me a little earlier today. You need to pick one of us. You can't be with both of us, Mal." I pulled away as quickly as I ran to him. "What?" "I am going to give you two some privacy," Evie whispered, walking out my bedroom door. "You can't just spring that on me, Harry! How am I supposed to just pick between the two of you?!" "Everyone else is able to pick someone over another. Time for you to make your choice." Just the thought of living without one of the two boys kind of scared me. Harry was there for me through thick and thin, but Ben helped me change to a decent human being. How could I ever choose? I loved them both.
Carlos, Jay, Evie, and I were on a picnic in the woods. The place where we were sitting was a little clearing with hundreds of tall trees crowding around the area. The roof of the trees made it dark in the clearing but it made me feel a bit at home. "What do I do, guys? Who do I choose?" I wailed to my friends. "Well, who has stuck by your side through all of the obstacles of life, even when you mess up big?" Jay wondered. "Both of them. More so Ben." "Who makes you a better person?" Carlos asked. "I don't know. Ben changed me but Harry kept me in line." I clarified. I turned to Evie who was sitting there silently. "Evie, what do you think I should do?" "The only thing anyone can do is follow their heart, Mal. Do the same and you will find your way."
I was back in Evie and I's old bedroom, thinking. Talking to my friends helped, but I still couldn't decide. I hadn't seen either of the boys at all today, as i've been out on a picnic for the whole day. But now it was time to curl up and rest my busy head.
That morning I woke up with a pounding headache. "Ugh." I rubbed my head, feeling my knotted hair. The mirror across from my bed showed me smudged makeup, wrinkled, and dirty clothes. I needed to change and redo my makeup for sure. So that's what I did this morning. I found a casual purple dress in my old closet that I threw on, along with some basic makeup and jewelry. My head was still pounding, but at least I didn't look like a disaster. I looked at the clock on my bedstand, which said it was 11:15. I had slept in way too long. I had a decision to make, and I think I have made one. I had a strange dream that night that helped me make my decision. Who knew dreams were so powerful?
As I walked around outside, I saw all of the Auradon kids playing Tourney and eating lunch, chatting with their friends. I knew where to find the person I was looking for. He was probably sitting near the lake at the back of the school. The only place in the school that would probably make him feel more at home.
I was correct. He was sitting by the lake, throwing rocks into the stirring water. "Harry?" "Mal?" He turned around, his face lighting up, then he looked disappointed. "I'm guessing you're here to tell me the bad news." "What bad news?" I asked, confused. "The news that you've chosen Ben. Not me." He turned away, continuing to throw rocks into the lake. "Harry. I chose you. Not Ben." That got his attention. "What did you just say?" "I'm choosing you." He stood up, turning to face me, and he stepped closer. "I love you, Harry." "I love you too, Mal." He was so close to me, I could hear his heart pounding. He leaned into me and kissed me. The kiss felt so real, making my heart jump out of my throat.
Harry and I walked back to the school, holding hands, talking about about where we were going to stay. "Mal, I've seen how happy you've been here. We should stay here. I could live by the rules for once," he smiled. "Are you sure?" "Of course. Anything for you, love." He pulled me in closer to him, holding onto my waist. We walked in silence for a while until Harry asked me something. "Can we go out to a picnic for dinner tonight?" "Of course! Where?" "Well, when you locked yourself in your room, Evie showed me where Ben took you on your first date. The place is quite beautiful. Can we go there tonight?" I thought about it for a minute. Ben had taken me to that spot many time since then, and it was still my favourite place in Auradon. "Sure."
It was 5:00 and I was walking to the spot where Harry wanted me to meet him. I had told Ben about my choice earlier that day and also about our choice to stay in Auradon. He was disappointed, but I think he understood it. After that, Evie helped prepare me for Harry and I's date. She picked out a purple dress that went down to my knees. It had one strap around my neck and the top part had dark purple jewels all over it. My makeup was a little bit more than basic, and it was almost all purple too. My look was perfect for tonight.
"Mal! Finally!" I had arrived at the spot, and Harry had noticed. His expression was worth every penny. He looked mischievous as always, but he also looked shocked. "Come sit down." He took my hand and helped me sit down on the patio like area. We sat on a blanket, surrounded by all types of food. There were buckets of strawberries (my favourite), a tray of sandwiches, croissants, cookies, cupcakes, salad, the list goes on. It was amazing! The sun was hanging low in the sky, giving us barely enough light to eat. From the structure that we were sitting under, there were hanging twinkling lights. "Harry, this is amazing!" I gahsped. "Only the best for the best!" He winked. He was clearly enjoying himself, impressing me like this. Then he stood up, pulling me with him. He pulled out a ring, knelt down and asked me "Will you marry me, Mal?"
