Their different personalities didn't mix, nor match, so how did four different experiments become friends? Maybe because they were experiments, maybe because neither of them were similar to anyone else in their society. Maybe it was because they were all tied together in some way that scared them to know as one but not as four. Perhaps that's why the four unlikely friends and failed experiments stood in a junk yard pass curfew with a port-screen in front of them with a resume button begging to be plaid in the middle of the dark.

The red-headed girl let out a shaky breath, staring down at the screen. The man was frozen, as if time had been stopped and he was no more. Only a few days ago had Valerie Martin been sitting in a white class room and speaking a way that hurt her tongue. Now she stood with three complete strangers around a port-screen and knowledge of where she came from. Her breath became even more shaky. Her hands trembled as she pressed the resume button and the man had started to move again.

Dr. Vans-Middlesworth was a strange looking man, with a bald head and crooked nose with circular glasses that made his strangly bright green eyes stand out. Valerie couldn't stop staring, her mind racing as he spoke to the screen and sputtered out words. His voice wasn't like velvet like any other man in their society, instead it was crisp and cold, like an early morning fog on a crisp autumn day. As he spoke his posture had dropped, his hands flying everywhere and knocking over a pot holding different coloured pens. A tall lady walked into frame and picked up the spilt objects, smiling up at him and kissing his cheek before walking away.

The ladys' voice spoke over from behind the camera. "Don't be shy, tell them what you've found."

The man smiled at her, then focused back to the camera and fixed his glasses. "Based on all information I have found, it is possible for each of the specials to over throw our government and restore our minds to previous beleifs. Each of the five has a different responibility based around his or hers failed testing. I beleive if they focus their minds in just the right way the will be able to fix everything."  He paused, looking up at the woman and smiling widely. "In other news, our two daughters have just been born, and we have big hopes for them. Valerie and Emma, our two daughters have failed all tests, as subjects fifty-three and fifty-four. It is in our greatest beleifs they will be leading the specials and save our society from complete ruin. Emma, Valerie, if you ever find this, we love-"

The screen started to fuz, a splitting sound cutting through a silence that had been there. A few screams were heard from the screen, the picture cutting in and out. Valeries eyes had widened drastically. She watched the scene play out before her, hands shaking as the last few words spilled out before there was a gun shot and the screen went black.

The video ended, and when she looked up at her friends her cheeks were wet and lips were trembling. A sob was stuck in her throat, her hands shaking even more as she dropped the screen and clasped a hand over her mouth. Amber was the first to grab her and sit her down as she sobbed into her shoulder. Her mind couldn't process everything happening.

What were they getting their selves into?
