Miles woke up, heart racing and mouth dry.

He tried to speak, all that came out was a cough. Once he started he couldn't stop, everytime he coughed he felt an empty rattling in his lungs. He wiped his hand on his drywall caked pants,

" You need to get ready, the inspection's almost over." Aidyn practically whispered.

Miles jumped, his head whacked his brother's thigh. He stared around the room wide eyed, sunlight glared at him from under the curtain, two candles flickered on the coffee table. The rough fabric of the couch became more prominent on his arm.

" You need to get up, Miles."

Though not understanding fully, he nodded his head and stood up from the couch. Aidyn helped him balance for a second before Miles pushed off and shuffled to his room.  It felt like an out of body experience, he watched his hands reach forward and tug clothes from his drawers. He watched his feet shuffle back out and down the hall, when he reached the stairs he had to swallow the lump in his throat. The things looked monstrously large. His legs trudged up one step at a time, through his plugged ears he heard his own ragged breathing.  When he got to the top, from under the closed doors white light poured from the cracks. He didn't bother locking the bathroom door, he threw his clothes off blindly; for a moment he wrestled with his shirt as it stuck to his head. When the shower began to steam he jumped in, a muffled conversation pervaded through the wall.  The steam seemed to clear his head a little, the world made a lot more sense than it had five minutes previous. Through his toes, red water ran into the drain. It swirled around and around the drain like the eye of a massive, bloody hurricane. Brown muck and dirt joined the mixture, with a ' slurp' it finally went down the abyss. He washed away the streaks of dirt and sweat from his body, his pores sang as they received the much needed attention. Next, he lathered shampoo in his hair and listened to the still sounds of the bathroom.

He shook his head to the sides, trying to get the images out of his head. The heavy, rotting scent of the dead bodies wouldn't leave his nose.  He shook his arms free from the roaring, black clouds that had swallowed him. Screwdriver's wide eyes seemed to invade the bathroom and seep through the walls around him. Despite the steaming shower a chill passed over his body, he hadn't told Screwdriver where he lived so how did he get home?

He closed his eyes and plunged his head into the scalding water. He breathed in and out, gasping between the droplets that entered his mouth. When he came out he didn't want to open his eyes or turn off the shower, but he did both. He stared into the beige wall of the bathroom, what an ugly colour.

When he reached the bottom of the stairs he was immersed in utter chaos, he stood in the midst of it for a moment. Tyrell and Bexley pulled on their sweaters, Charles gathered his things into a bag. Aidyn stood across from Miles with a sullen expression. Miles felt something, deep in his stomach, crawling up his throat. That's when he noted Tyrell, memories from the day prior clicked.  Tyrell turned around for a minute to talk to his father, so Miles ducked down the hallway, he went into his room instead. He threw his pile of dirty clothes on to the floor, something else fell with it. He bent down to pick it up.  The purple day planner slid in his finger tips, he took a breath and sat down on his bed. He flipped to the page he had book marked.

Why did she have to be so cryptic? This whole thing seemed like a video game demo, never seeing the ending. Aidyn's words ran through his mind and he began to consider the thought of his mom having a date.  He began to see some sort of truth in his brother's words. The voices in the living room grew louder now, the footsteps became heavier. Miles threw the day planner on to his bed and stood up. He lingered in the doorway and listened for a moment before he walked into the open hallway. Four pairs of eyes bore into him.
