Alaric stood beside her comatose body, his hand tightly clutching Kelsey's. Her family stood around the room, silently crying as they prepared for what was to come.

The doctor had already gone through what would happen after her life support had been turned off but that didn't make it any easier to let go. All of her drips had been turned off, and the tube that had been put in her throat to keep her breathing had been removed.

The hardest part of it all was the waiting, there wasn't anything anyone could do to speed up the rate her heart rate decreased at. When it had eventually come to a complete stop and Kelsey had been pronounced dead, her older sister Elizabeth approached him.

"Alaric?"

He turned to her, their bloodshot eyes locking, "Yeah?"

"I know we didn't get off to the best start, but I can tell how much she meant to you." Elizabeth wrapped her arms around him. "Thank you for making her happy."

"She was the love of my life," Alaric admitted after they had pulled apart. "I'll never forget her or the night we met."
