It had been nearly three months since the accident occurred, and Alaric had finally decided that perhaps drowning his sorrows in alcoholic beverages wasn't the best solution.

He had woken up that morning without the need to crack open the scotch, something that hadn't happened since long before the accident.

Alaric had showered, gotten dressed, and headed out the door. It was around 10am on a Thursday morning meaning kids were at school and most adults had jobs to go to which left the streets of Mystic Falls almost completely empty.

With his hands shoved deep into the pockets of his jacket, he silently walked his way through the small town, not full paying attention to his surroundings.

"Watch it!" A woman snapped as their shoulders collided roughly.

"I'm so sor – " Alaric cur himself off. "Elizabeth, hi."

He easily recognised her from the pictures Kelsey had decorated his apartment with. He almost couldn't bear to look at the woman in front of him as she bore too much resemblance to the one he loved.

"Do I know you?" She raised an eyebrow as he crossed her arms over her chest.

"Right, um, we never got to meet. I'm Alaric," he extended his hand to her. "Kelsey's – "

"I know who you are," her quizzical expression was quickly replaced with a harsh glare. "Everything that happened to her is your fault."

Alaric hadn't felt the urge to have a single drop of alcohol that day, but after his run in with Elizabeth, the urge was back.
