Damon sighed as he placed a hand on his friend's shoulder in a comforting manner, unsure of what to say to him.

"I thought I'd finally found someone who wouldn't die on me," Alaric finally broke the silence that had fallen between them.

"She's not dead yet, Ric. There's still a chance she'll wake up," Damon comforted the crying man.

"Her family," he paused for a second, not being able to bear saying the words, "they want to turn off her life support. I never got to say goodbye. She's gonna die angry with me."

The raven haired vampire opened his mouth to form a sentence, only to have no words come out.

"You can still say goodbye," the eldest Salvatore finally spoke. "I can put you in her mind, if that's what you want, you can say goodbye."

"You would do that for me?" Alaric looked up with tears in his ocean blue eyes.

"You're my best friend, Ric, of course I would."

The ex high school history teacher wrapped his arms around the vampire in a tight embrace, something they did very rarely.

"Thank you, Damon," his voice was barely a whisper but with his heightened hearing, Damon heard. "You have no idea how much this means to me."
