It was a day like any other at William Smith's firm. He arrived just after eight like always, read over the legal documentation that was piling up on his desk and saw the same troublesome clients that he had been seeing for over a week now. Around noon just as he was starting to make a dent in his mountain of claims Smith came across a rather peculiar case. He opened the file and began to read, his eyes growing wider with each sentence he read. Desperate to get a promotion he decided to take on this challenging case that read 'Fay versus Fay.'
It was half past three the next day when the Fay couple finally arrived for their scheduled twelve o'clock meeting. The office could always tell when the couple arrived, it wasn't because of their ear splitting yelling that carried throughout the entire building or because of the rough slap that every poor door received, nor was it because of the way their stare penetrated through your soul. No, it was none of the physical signs that alluded to their presence. Everyone in the office described it differently, Linda from the fourth floor said it was like the wind has been knocked out of her leaving her breathless. Roy from IT described it as a tingly feeling that engulfed his entire body. Mrs. Jenson the ancient secretary, who was the current dinosaur and also the resident gossip, had described a cold shiver that ran down her prehistoric spine. Although everyone had their own description they could all agree that there was a spiritual energy change.
The energy was not the only thing that changed though. Dark ominous clouds flooded the sky, each growing darker and seemingly angrier than the previous. The once light filled office now only lit by the scattered ceiling lights. The rumbling cloud shook the entire building with such intensity one would think it was an earthquake. Old Mrs. Jenson took refuge, holding onto her small wooden desk. A thunderous boom echoed when the devious clouds crashed together. The lightning peeking out every so often, a striking white line onto the black canvas.
Destruction had arrived...
The double doors flew open, a furious couple stood in the place of where doors once stood, separating the safety of the office and danger of the outside world. A mysterious wind blowing around them violently moving the wild hair of Mrs. Fay. "I told you not to take the Falcon. Those goons of yours never remember to refuel it." The wild looking woman growled.
"And I told you to be ready by eleven." The gruff looking man grunted back. Mrs. Jenson seemed to shrink even further into her chair, if that was possible, with her four foot eleven stature. She then quietly rang William while the couple continued to argue. "Mr. Smith your twelve o'clock is here." Mrs. Jenson, who only called William Mr. Smith out of respect, whispered into the phone all the while the couple's argument getting louder and more aggressive.
"I thought I heard them," William grimaced, "alright send them in."
"Now listen here little whippersnapper are you going to let little ol' me deal with these two. No, you can come and get them yourself." The small but fierce lady demanded before hanging up the phone. With that William sighed, straightened his tie, fixed his suit and prepared for battle.
Walking out of his office William could already see the minor destruction. A brand new chair flipped upside down, a painting of a sunset at the beach with a gash through the centre and the water dispenser knocked over, with litres upon litres soaking into the rug, that was brought to replace the last rug destroyed by them. "Um, Mr. and Mrs. Fay." William attempted to be heard over the commotion but struggled. "Um excuse me." He tried again with no success. "MR. AND MRS. FAY!" William shouted as a last resort, suddenly the two stop frozen in time. "Would you two like to join me in my office?" William said with a polite smile gracing his lips.
"Oh yes." Mrs. Fay gushed politely collecting her belongings. The couple walked through the doors continuing the argument in a hushed voice. "See Oberon now they think we are uncivilised beasts." Mrs. Fay barked at her husband.
