Knock Knock

“Elle. I know you’re in there. Please, just let me talk to you?”

I hear her muffled talking behind her door. “Go away.” She says with a tint of sadness in her tone. I decide to ignore her request and take a hair pin out of my bun. I bend it over and over until it’s small enough to fit inside the small key hole. With a bit of wiggling around, the lock finally gives up and lets me in. I open the door slowly as if in a horror movie. Elle is laying on her bed face down with her head nuzzled in the pillows. Next to her lays a box of tissues and a half eaten tub of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.

“Wow. Ben and Jerry’s? This must be pretty serious.” I say as I sit next to her on her bed and twirl her red curls between my fingers. She sits up to reveal her sadden face coated with tears.

“Why did you do it?” she repeats without any emotion whatsoever. Her watery eyes stare at the wall waiting for an answer. She snatches her hair out of my hands and tucks the small stand behind her ear.

                “I didn’t mean—“

“I don’t want excuses.” She says blankly “I want the truth.” She mumbles holding back tears.

“You’re right.” I say firmly “I was wrong to tell Dylan that you like him. I’m so sorry, Elle. You know I love you and I would never do anything that could potentially hurt you. You’re my best friend.” Before the end of my apology speech the tears are already streaming over my face. She’s my best friend and I love her so much. I wish I never would have done this.

I’m surprised when Elle suddenly turns around and gives me the tightest hug she can muster.

“I forgive you.” She whispers. I let out a sigh of relief big enough to make Elle’s hair blow.

“Okay so, I gotta ask…ARE YOU AND DYLAN TOGETHER?” I say excitedly.

“Well, he says he wants to see me more.” She giggles “It all started the day you told him that I like him. He says he’s been feeling that way about me for a while and as soon as he heard the news he found me…and kissed me!” she squeals

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, back up. This is all because I told him that you like him?” I ask reassuringly

“Yeah I guess so. But you’re missing the important part…he kissed me!” she screams twirling her hair.

“Oh gosh.” I repeat “Just be careful. Okay? He doesn’t seem like a great guy.” I say grabbing her hands.

“I’ll be fine!” she protests while daydreaming silently.

“Well, I have checked the security tapes several times.” Mrs. Tina continues “and, well I can’t really make out who was standing behind you let alone who pushed you. The security footage was shot from far away, so it’s hard to even make anyone out.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me.” I complain “How can you not tell? Is there some way you can zoom in or something?” I say my voice raising.

“I’m sorry, but there’s nothing we can do at this point.” She says. She gets up and walks straight out the door leaving me alone sitting at her desk. I can’t believe this is happening to me. I mean, it’s impossible that she can’t tell who it is. The clicking of someone’s high heels walking by interrupts my train of thought.

“Well, well, well, look who’s here.” Someone snickers behind me. I turn around to reveal Lena Leaning in the door way. “What are you doing in Mrs. Tina’s office, huh? Maybe I should tell her you’re here?” she snorts arrogantly.

“Look, Lena you’ve caused enough problems in my life for now. Why don’t you just but out?” I say getting out of the office chair. She raises her eyebrows and gives me the most pathetic look she could possibly think of.

“Wow. Poor little Kayla! You don’t think I’m actually going to do that do you? You’re so naïve.” She says with a snort.

                “Please just go.” I sigh

“One thing first, I was the one who pushed you. Too bad you can’t do anything about it.” She says with a pouty face. And with a wink she was gone.

Short little chapter. I figured I would just post it since I had it written. I found the funniest gif of Lena on the side. It's basically exactly what I imagined for the ending. Enjoy :)
