Marigold

Laying in a field in the brightest orange flowers,
Not far from a lake, eyes closed, drifting for hours.
A echoing sound, a whisper on the wind,
Causes her to open her eyes again.
"What was that sound? Who is there?"
Then far in the distance a man appears.
Tall, young, and familiar to her eyes,
The closer he gets, she begins to rise.
He's reaching for her now, grasping her hands,
He whispers,"It's time to go now,"a gentle command.
Her heart became lighter when he came near,
She clings to him while whispering in his ear,
"I think I know you, you were once mine,
But I lost you long ago, in another time."
Then the echoing sound came again from before,
The whisper more clear, coming from the lake shore.
She hears it again, it's becoming more clear,
She leans towards it with her ear,
For the first time, in his eyes, she sees fear.
But then the sound in the wind comes once more,
It becomes loud and clear as she runs to the shore.
"Mom! Mom!" Sobbing cries and tears from the lake,
Beckoning her, pleading with her, causing her heart to break.
She leans over the waters edge, and there she sees,
A grief stricken young lady not much older than she.
The young lady is pleading with an old empty shell,
"Mom! Please remember me, this is such hell!
I love you mom, please come back to me,
Remember please, who you used to be!"
Looking at the young lady her heart brakes more,
Leaning towards the water, rocking her to her core.
The man grabs her hand gently and says, "You can't stay."
She responds"I know, but I can't leave her that way."
So she jumps in the lake, sinking into the darkness,
Struggling through the fog, which seems to be heartless.
She finally arrives at a different place,
Beeping sounds, sterile smells, an unfamiliar space.
She hears and feels the young lady sobbing on her chest,
She wipes her tears and says, "Shhh it's time to rest,
No need to fret, my love, I am hear,
There is nothing you need to fear."
The young lady looked up, wiping her tears,
"Mom is that you? Are you finally here?
Is it really you? Do you know who I am?
I need you right now, it's me, it's Sam!"
Sam a girl with bright yellow orange hair,
Clung to her mom, praying she was there.
She responds," Yes my sweet Marigold I am here,
Your mama is with you, no need to fear,
But come closer, I need you to come hear,
I need to tell you something, before I disappear."
Sam looks into her mothers eyes, "It is you!
I can't believe it, I have so much to say,
Mom I've missed you, so much, every single day."
"I don't have much time," she responded, "I can't stay,
Your Dad has come for me, to take me away.
I need you to know, that I love you with all of my heart,
There is nothing in this world that can keep us apart.
You may not see me, or hear me, but I will be there,
Watching over you forever, during your happiness and despair.
Know that you are loved, and we are waiting for you,
In heaven, with God, so please don't be blue.
Live your life, laugh and find love, there is no time to waste,
For it will fly by way too fast, for life is a quick pace.
I have to leave you now, but do not fret,
Where I am going there are no regrets.
I love you my Marigold, this you must know,
For there nothing more important in this world.
Be brave, be kind, in hard times rise above,
But know that the key to life's journey is love."
She could feel her body grow heavy, sinking back into the lake,
Swimming through memories, thoughts and past mistakes,
She is again laying in orange flowers near the shore,
She sees the man from once before.
He reaches down to kiss her head,
"Are you ready to go my love?" He said.
"Yes my love," then he helped her stand,
So much love as they journey hand in hand,
Finally bringing her home, in a far off land.
