Sam~I was sitting in the food court when I saw him, Jake. His dark brown, almost black hair and a muscular frame was something people can't easily forget.
He's faced away from me, which I'm glad. If I saw his piercing green eyes again there's no doubt about it I would have a full-blown panic attack in the middle of the mall food court.
He wasn't a good person, he hit me when he got angry and he often came home drunk. I'm so glad I was able to get out of that abusive relationship. I escaped from him a few months ago, I thought I was finally safe, he hasn't been able to find me, that is until right now.
He turns around as our eyes meet. My heart rate quickens as my breathing becomes uneven. He starts walking toward me with horrible intent evident in his eyes. I fumble with my things, I'm sure everyone in this food court thinks I'm insane by this point.
As I'm about to stand up a man with brown hair puts his hands over mine and mouthes the words "Just go with it," to me. I glance back at Jake, he stopped dead in his tracks. He grows angry but turns around and stomps away.
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and look back to the man in front of me who may have just saved my life. The mystery man smiles at me revealing dimples on his cheeks.
"You okay?" He asks.
I nod my head. He still hasn't pulled his hands away but I don't really mind.
"Why did you do that?" I ask finally regaining my ability of speech.
"That guy was walking towards you with anger as you had a panic attack, I figured that it wasn't good but if you left he would probably just follow you," he explained as if it was nothing, "so what's your name?" He asks, rather casually and suddenly.
"Oh," I pause for a minute at a loss of words, "Sam" I respond using the nickname I much prefer to go by.
"Well Sam," he says testing out my name, "I'm Colby, it's nice to meet you," he says with a smile.
He pulls his hands away from mine, my hands feel cold and I want his hands back with mine. He finds a pen and slides a napkin over to himself before scribbling down some numbers and handing it to me.
Without another word he's gone, his pen still resting on the table in the spot he once sat at. I gather my things and walk out the doors of the mall to my car before Jake can come back.
I get into my car and rest my head against the steering wheel with a sigh. A tear rolls down my cheek as the memories of him flood back into my mind. When I left I had to change my phone number and refused to go into public for weeks until I thought it was safe, I moved in with a few friends, I told them about everything that happened to me.
I pick my head up and pull out of the parking spot. It really sucks that I have to leave, this is the first time I was able to get a good parking spot at the mall on a Saturday.
I drive back to my home that I share quietly crying over the memories. The gate opens and I drive into the large "U" shaped driveway. I park my car next to the two others. I get out of my car and walk to the large front door. This house is more like a small mansion, I'm just glad I'm not the one who pays the bills. It's been a while since I moved out of Jakes house but I still haven't adjusted to living here, so I haven't gotten a job yet.
When I enter the house I hear my two roommates playing video games in the living room.
"Oh, oh, oh," I hear his yelling, "No! Damn it!" his yell of defeat echoes through the house.
I laugh quietly as I walk through the house. "I'm back," I call out before walking up the stairs to my room.
I didn't want them to see that I was crying earlier so I didn't go and talk to them. I collapse on my bed with a sigh of exhaustion. I pull my phone out of my pocket but a napkin falls out. I pick it up to see a ten digit number written down. I open my phone and add his contact hoping the number isn't a fake.
