My eyes blinked for a second and looked around the room I was in. I almost forgot that I was in a starship, on my way to where the New Senate was going to meet. The pages crumpled in my hands as I clenched my fists. I felt such pain and sorrow for the writer of this journal. At first, I felt bad for sneaking in the back locked room.

Then I found the journal. It had been stuck behind a shelf full of power converters. I saw the corner of it and had grabbed it, looking at the front and the back. It looked cool, so I grabbed it and went back to my room, locked my door and decided to read it.

It was really dusty and it took a while but I finally got the book to open after blowing the dust off and pulling the pages apart. I had no idea who this belonged to, but right then as I looked back at the pages I knew it was important.

I looked at the door to make sure the driver of the starship wasn’t coming and then continued reading.

I’m a Jedi Knight; well I guess you could say that I was a Jedi Knight. After tonight, there aren’t any more left. I don’t know if I can finish writing this.

For thousands of years Jedi Knights have been the guardians of the galaxy, protecting and insuring peace.

And now, tonight, because of me that’s all over.

If you’re reading this it means you’ve probably never heard of Jedi Knights, the Republic, the Senate…If you have, it’s probably from books, stories, legends, myths…

For thousands of years, the Jedi used and relied on the Force, the center of all living things. They used it to heal, to help, to fight…To help them ensure peace throughout the galaxy.

For thousands of years, the Jedi never had to worry about the Sith. The Sith are the enemies of the Jedi, calling to the dark side of the Force, drawing it out to use for their power.  When I was a boy, however, the Sith hadn’t shown themselves to the Jedi for thousands of years. After I became a Padawan learner, the Council knew there was a Sith Lord out there somewhere, but the question was who and where.

I was ten when Master Qui-Gon-Jinn found me and freed me from slavery and got me off Tatooine. My mother and I belonged to a parts dealer named Watto. I was brought to Coruscant with Qui-Gon. He and his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi had just returned there along with the Queen of Naboo, and her bodyguards. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan had saved her when the Trade Federation sent a blockade of starships to Naboo. They had planned on killing her when Qui-Gon rescued her.

Unfortunately, their ship was damaged when they tried to get away. So that’s how they ended up on Tatooine. We met and Qui-Gon let me enter a Pod-race to try and help them. I won and they were able to buy the parts to their ship they needed with the winning money. Qui-Gon freed me from my slavery and after a harsh goodbye to my mother; we left for Coruscant, the center of the galaxy. I had met a handmaiden of the Queen along the way. I can remember giving her a necklace I had made. She had taken it and smiled, but I can still hear the words she’d said to me: “I don’t need this to remember you by. I’ll always remember you.” Her name was Padme Amidala.

Padme. I can see her beautiful face now even as I’m writing this.

On Coruscant, the Jedi Council didn’t want to train me because I was too old, at age ten. Jedi knights start training as babies. That’s how it had been for eons. Qui-Gon insisted they allow me to learn, but they pointed out that he already had an apprentice. Obi-Wan was ready for the trials, he was ready to become a full Jedi Knight.

That would have to be dealt with later. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan had to go back to Naboo with the Queen. I went with them and Qui-Gon told me since he couldn’t train me, I was to watch and observe him very closely so that I would learn. On Naboo, we met up with the Gungans and devised a plan. The Gungans would attack the droid army so the Viceroy of the Trade Federation would be distracted with that. Meanwhile, Padme and the Queen’s bodyguards would sneak in and capture the Viceroy.
