"I invited your father over for dinner and an old friend who is in town visiting family," Mum said while bustling around the kitchen while I made up for all the work I missed from the month I skipped.
"Who did you invite and when?" I said, looking up from the math that was frustrating me.
"Do your homework. It won't be for a couple of days, but you will be happy when you see who it is." I tried my hardest to think of who would be in town visiting, but I couldn't possibly think of anyone from out of town mum knew.
"I think I am going to need a tutor for this shit," I said finally giving up on my math and moving on to the next subject.
"It is your fault for not going to school so I don't want to hear about it," Mum said before stirring the soup. "Of course, we can get you a tutor though, but you have to pay."
"What if I have someone from the school tutor me?"
"If that's what you want. What subject are you working on now?" Mum didn't like the idea of me having another student tutor me, she thought a proper tutor should be older and be paid.
"Science." I didn't need a tutor for this subject, for me it was almost like second nature.
"I see." Mum looked over at the stack of homework I brought home, "You still have a lot to go so you had better get busy and quit talking to me."
"Okay okay." I sighed, "Tomorrow I will ask about getting a tutor." And do the lunch detention I had forgotten about. I managed to do everything I could for the night, but I still had half a pile of work to do.
"You need a haircut." Mum said looking at my hair, "Unless there is something wrong with you and you have decided to grow it out."
"I've had so much on my mind I kinda forgot about it," I said while rubbing the back of my neck.
"Soups done." Mum scooped some up into a bowl and then handed it to me. I ate and attempted to do some more math.
"Whenever this dinner party thing is can Sky and Kimmy come over too?"
"I don't see why not." Mum smiled at me, she had started to like Kimmy more after she let me stay at her house for a month. Mum liked that she was willing to take care of me while I was at a low point.
November 6 (the next day)
I drove to school early so I could talk to a counselor about getting a tutor. He said to stop in the library after school because they had one free tutor and she would be there.
"How did it go?" Sky said when I walked out.
"I got a tutor, what do you expect."
"Eww, a tutor. For what?"
"For all the math she missed when she was at your house," Sky said rolling her eyes at Kimmy's stupidity.
"Still, eww. At least maybe she will get a hot tutor."
"Jesus Kimmy, do you have to make everything about sex?"
"No, but sex is awesome."
"Guys!" I complained. "Do you have to do this now? The bell rang."
"It did?!" They unanimously answered.
"Yes, and I'd like to be on time."
We headed off to our classes. Overall the day went by fast. During lunch, I was stuck in a classroom while my friends were out doing whatever. Kaide was in here too, but of course, the troubled football player didn't show up. Maybe he wasn't here, I beat Kayden to class and she wasn't walking with him. Kayden didn't talk to me or look in my direction the whole period and I was fine with that.
