Eerie.
That's all that Lance could describe the car ride as. Eerie.
No one was talking, the radio wasn't playing, and the only sound was the hum of Lance's red Nissan. Yup, the very definition of eerie.
Lance was constantly checking on Keith, slightly concerned at how silent he had been the entire car ride so far. Keith has never this quiet before he thought, his concern only growing.
"Keith....babe are you all right?"No answer.
"Keith...y-you know that if something been bugging you that you can talk to me anytime...."
Still no answer.
That was it. He had had enough. Lance hit the brakes, causing the car to jerk forward. Luckily they were on a back road, taking a shortcut to the hospital. Keith seatbelt pulled tightly around his neck, making him hiss in pain. Both arms flew to his babies, squeezing his middle tightly on instinct.
"Lance what the actual hell!" Keith shouted, looking angrily at his spouse.
"SORRY! Sorry, but you weren't talking to me! Keith, I was seriously worried about you!" Lance shouted back, looking at Keith with a very exasperated expression, his contouring face saying it all.
Keith blinked a few times before he sighed, giving Lance a hopeful smile. Lance felt a little......off-placed....by Keith giving him a smile, wildly bewildered as to why he was acting so nice.
"Sorry Lance" Keith said in a small and squeamish tone.
"Look Keith, I'm right here." Lance said in a soft voice, placing a warm hand on Keith shoulder. "If there anything on your mind, I want you to know that you can talk to me about it."
"Ok" Keith whispered, leaning upward into Lance's face. Their soft lips connected, Lance's cherry chapstick having a wonderful flavor in Keith's mouth. Keith leaned back and sighed contently, looking passionately into Lance's ocean blue eyes.
"I love you" Keith whispered, using his right hand to reach up and intertwine their fingers, Lance rubbing over Keith's pale knuckles, a tingling feeling of reassurance washing over his pregnant middle. "I love you, I love you, I love you".
"I know baby, I love you too" Lance whispered-chuckled, rubbing soft circles on Keith stomach with his other hand. They touched their foreheads, grinning all the while. They sat like that for a good minute or so, just enjoying each other's love.
"Tell me what's wrong Keith" Lance said, moving from Keith's face to his ear, whispering soothingly. "Tell me what's bothering you."
"You'll hate me if if I tell you, Lance, you will" Keith whispered back hesitatingly, blushing as Lance softly kisses his neck. 60% of him was sure that Lance was getting horny, and like 100% of him wanted him to be.
"Keith....you know that I could never hate you" Lance said, leaning up from Keith neck and looking into his purple galaxy-like eyes. "Especially when your willing to have our babies"
Keith smiled, feeling tears sting at his eyes. "Ok" he sighed, blinking rapidly to try to not cry. Damn...the mood swings are early. "I'll tell you".
Lance waited for Keith to stop crying, kissing away his tears in the process. He moved the hand that was on Keith's shoulder to his back and rubbed it soothingly, earning a few murmured 'thank yous'.
"You know when we first found that I was pregnant, we were told of all the possible......complications?" Keith asked, leaning into the crook of Lance's neck over the middle console. His breathing was becoming rigid, his chest rising and falling in an uneasy pattern.
Lance only nodded, remembering the specific day and what the doctor told them. His eyes were fixed on Keith, trying his best to calm him down. There were a few beats of silence as Keith took a couple shaky breath, then continued.
"Today w-we're going t-to see them, Lance. What if they get hurt while in me? What if they have a disability because of me?! W-what if they...if they.."
Keith couldn't do it. He couldn't finish that sentence, but Lance knew what he was going to say. He knew what he was fearing today. He knew the reason behind the quiet, sobbing "sorries" he was receiving, and on one hand, he was glad. He was glad he knew, because now he could fix it. He could fix his Keith.
"Babe I know, and I know how scary it is". Keith softly nodded from Lance's neck, sniffling and trying to hold back his tears.
"But what if they're born healthy? What if they aren't at all hurt and they are perfectly fine? Life is always going to be a 50/50 Keith . No matter how you look at it there is always going to be bad things that happen, but there is always going to be good things as well. We'll ll just have to......keep going on with life. But whatever happens along the way, we'll alaways be here for each other, no matter what. So it's okay Keith....we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, and no matter what, we'll cross it together."
By now Keith had stopped crying, rather sniffling in Lance's shoulder. The comforting rubs in his back and his sweet words we're enough to calm Keith down completely.
There was a pause in the car, the two lovers silently enjoying the passionate warmth emanating all around them. It was nice, the silence in the car wasn't eerie anymore, rather it was exactly the way it was meant to be. Loving.
"So........do you still want to see them?" Lance whispered, kissing Keith temple. Keith turned to Lance and smiled, glad to have such a perfect partner by side.
"Yeah....I want to see them"
