Chapter 29 : Losing Control

My eyes widened at the sound of pitter patter of feet in the distance, more of them were coming. We braced ourselves, waiting for them to appear. Lunto started shooting balls of light will Jake used his speed to cut them down hastily. I extended my hands to shoot blades of fire and Mellow, using her telekinesis, grabbed random objects and started firing at them. Veronica clasped her hands together as loud, vibrating sound shot at the weird beings, making them fly across the room and hit the hard wall.

Lara did nothing, her power was telepathy so she found nothing to do. But I noticed her trembling, as if containing something within herself. Then I realized, she was on the verge of shifting into a demon.

"Lunto! Help Lara, she'll shift into a demon any moment now!"

Lunto made his way over to her, and watched.

"What the what are you doing?! She'll shift and become a demon!!"

And as I said that, Lara did started shifting into a demon. Her hair started turning jet black and her eyes were already black, no hint of orange in her them. It was. . . Frightening. She started floating as her hair started floating above her, her eyes were wide. She then stopped floating and stayed where she was in mid air.

"What is happening to me?" She asked.

I sighed, she still had control over herself.
"You shifted into a demon."

"WHAT?!"

Her uniform started turning into a black dress, silver sequences decorating her skirt part. She had long sleeves that had ruffles at the ends of it, she looked mysterious and. . . Well, mystifying.

'Lara, I want you to extend your arm and shoot out darkness.' Lunto said.

"Why would I do that?! I don't want to hurt my friends!"

'Shoot it at the beings, not your friends!' Lunto exclaimed.

"Oh." Lara followed, she extended her arm but nothing happened.

"Dang it, darkness! Just shoot--"

A ball of darkness shot out of her hands and towards the beings, turning them into ashes.

"Holy. . . Cows. . ."

She extended her arm and shot another one, then another, then another. She was getting the hang of it.

"Oh, cool!"

I smiled. We had a demon on our side, a Liogon, and we had powers.
"Let's show these beings what we're made of!"

Everyone grinned and gave it their all. My fire shown brighter as I shot them at the beings, I brought one hand up and made roots from the tree smack them.
Jake ran faster and cut them with more strength. Mellow lifted heavier objects and threw them. Veronica made the vibrations and sound better and louder, deafening the strange beings.

Lara's balls of darkness was bigger and much more. . . Scary. Her eyes had turned red and her nails had grown sharper. While I was firing at the beings, a ball of darkness was headed towards me. It could've disintegrated me to ashes when Jake pushed me and dodged the ball of darkness.

"Lara! Watch where you throw those things!" Jake cried angrily.

"Lara? I am not Lara! I am a demon, idiot!" She shot another at him as he dodged again.

I cursed under my breath.
"She's lost sanity. . . The demon has taken over her." I growled. "Lunto! What should we do?!"

The Liogon hissed at Lara.
'We have to make her shift back. . .'

"How in Crytalida do we do that?!"

'Simple. Someone has to knock her out.'

"And that's supposed to be 'simple' . . ." I muttered. "Someone has to knock her out!"

"Who?" They all chorused.

"Anyone!!!"

They all got to work. Mellow started throwing big rocks on Lara's head, but Lara was able to dodge them all. Jake tried using his speed to surprise her and knock her out, but when he reached behind her, she whirled around and kicked him, making him stumble backward.

I tried hitting her head with roots, but it was no use. She'd turn them to ashes as if they were leaves. Veronica, she released loud sound towards Lara, it wasn't affecting any of us though, only Lara. It seemed to be working since Lara started wobbling, after a while, her hair stopped floating and became golden yellow hair again, her eyes were orange and she was in her uniform once more.

She stopped floating as her eyes fluttered shut and fell to the ground and landed on Lunto's back with a 'thud'.

Veronica stopped releasing sounds and took a deep breath, inhaling and exhaling a lot, she then sat down to rest.
"Sorry. . . That. . . Drained a lot. . . Of my. . . Magical ener. . . Energy."

I knelt beside Veronica.
"You saved Lara, no need to apologise."

Veronica smiled as I helped Veronica stand. They looked around to realize none of those beings were left, all of them were either ashes, cut, thrown and broken, smashed or squashed.

"Let's go, no time for sightseeing." Jake said as he led the way.

"Thanks, by the way, Jake."

He faced me and grinned, than continued leading the way.

'We're almost there, just a bit more.' Lunto said.

We all nodded as we quickened our pace, excited to finally get out of this place. We saw light ahead and ran forward until e exited the dark abyss behind them.

"Thank god, I'm alive!" I exclaimed as I started bowing her head, as if praising the trees.

They all snickered but couldn't help but be overjoyed, but as they glanced at Lara they suddenly felt saddened.

"She lost control. . . How? She was perfectly fine before!" One of them exclaimed.

They all paused. Lunto suddenly spoke up.

'The Corrupting of Soul.'

The sentence alone sent shivers down their spines.
