Kian was sat in the living room when I entered slowly. A year or so ago we had moved into a community near the city and out of the pack house in hopes of reaching a level of privacy from our pack. He was typing away at something on the computer stuck in the computer and I wished for the Luna to be here so I would have a wing she-wolf for this.
How do I tell him?
I patted the small plastic object around in my hand- unsanitary as it may be- and blew a piece of hair out of my face.
How do I tell him?
A small gust of air blew and before I knew it my mate was wrapping his arms around my middle from behind. His nose nuzzled my cheek and a small breath blew from my lips at the contact.
How do I tell him?
"What are you thinking about, love?"
"K-Kian," I said quietly. Something in my voice told him that there was something bothering me because he turned me around to look me in the face.
The seriousness in his dark eyes caught me by surprise, they always do. I lifted my hand and brushed a piece of his black hair out of his face. He let it grow too long again.
"There's something I need to tell you," I whispered. His eyes widened and his bottom lip dropped a bit, a sure fire sign of his worriedness.
"What is it?"
"Well-"
I was suddenly interrupted by the sound of the kitchen door opening and the squall of my niece and nephew.
Ethan and Eve are here.
Nova came in looking tired as ever with one baby on each hip, Ethan was born with a head of his father's darker hair while Eve was bald as ever. Both their mouths were wide and screams were coming from them as their mother tried to soothe them best she could.
I went to them and took little Ethan from her while she thanked me and tried to calm Eve. When Eve's calm, Ethan's calm. They're intertwined like that.
Eve's face began to un-scrunch as she stopped crying and the redness slowly lessened until she looked content and happy.
"Thank you," Nova said in a breathless voice," I was coming to ask if you could watch them while I go look at washing machines but they suddenly decided to start crying."
"Strange."
"I know, Eve just started doing it then, of course, Ethan just had to. I couldn't get them to stop. I tried everything."
She looked really defeated, Nova's been going through a lot since the twins were born. Well, a lot less than what she went through when she was pregnant, but still a lot. Poor girl has so much on her plate.
Will it be like that for me?
Nova left and Kian and I were left to watch after our little niece and nephew. Yes, they think of Kian as an uncle and, yes, he loves it. He spoils then almost as much as their father.
My wolf thinks it's the worlds most amazing thing, our mate's love for children. My eyes snuck over to my knitting basket where a special surprise lied for Kian when they babies leave. Catherine taught me how to knit soon after the small battle. I've grown fond of the pass time and make blankets and clothing for others in the pack as well as my own home.
Another thing Catherine did was insist I stop calling her Luna. Originally, she wanted me to call her "mother" but that wasn't something I could do, especially because she and my mother were so close.
Nova came and picked up the babies about noon so Kian and I sat down for a late lunch in the living room. A movie that he happened to love was playing so he was so engrossed in it that he didn't notice my reaching for the basket.
I pulled out the blanket and smoothed it out on my lap, hands trembling and my breath shaking.
My eyes darted to Kian before I placed it on his lap gently.
He noticed immediately.
"What is this," he asked as he picked it up and looked at it," A baby blanket?"
"Yes," I replied in barely a whisper," What do you think?"
"It's great, which pack member asked you to make it?"
"None of the."
He froze, I listened intently for any sound of his breathing but there was none. He was holding his breath.
"Holly, does this mean-"
"It does."
"So, we're having a..."
He trailed off, eyes narrowing in on my stomach and this time I held my breath so he could listen better for the faint sound of a heartbeat coming from my middle.
It was there.
"Oh, my god. You're pregnant."
I nodded, smiling," How do you feel about children?"
He didn't reply, just stared at his hands for a long time.
Is he not happy?
He stood up abruptly and I mimicked his actions, nervous about how he would feel about this whole thing.
"Say something."
He didn't, he simply hugged me tightly and I smiled to myself. He's not mad.
"How long?"
"About 2 weeks," I held back a laugh," But the exact date is nearly impossible to determine."
"Do- do you know the gender yet, or is it to soon, or-"
"I don't know the gender."
"Have you considered names?"
"Kian," I told him sternly, grabbing him by the shoulders and shaking him lightly," I haven't done anything but take the test and do the math."
"Then," he didn't continue, just smiled.
"Then what?"
"You haven't thought of names or anything?"
I bit my lip.
Maybe I have.
"Tell me them."
"For a boy, I was thinking- well, hoping, I should say-"
"What is it, Holly?"
"Curt?"
His smile melted. I know why. Curt is- was- my father's name.
"If you don't like it then-"
"I love it."
"Really? Thank you. I- I also have an idea for a girl. It's kind of a dream, but I like it and it means a lot to me."
"Tell me."
"Well, when I was taken I had this little fantasy in the beginning that you would come rescue me like King Arthur would for the Lady Guinevere. I was wondering, what do you think of that?"
"Arthur?"
"Gwen?"
His eyes smiled for him and he twirled me around a second before pulling me in tight.
"Anything for you, my love."
