“Mom I’m fine here! The institute is in great shape, the paperwork is finished and everyone has a job. Now you need to go back to Idris.”
“Why Alec?”
“Because I have a job here and unlike you I’m actually shown up doing what I’m supposed to do not going to Idris to check on you. Now go back home with dad and just go back to work. Everything here will be fine, trust me. Idris needs you two back.”
“Okay but please call if you need anything.”
“I will.” I tell my mom as she walks out of my office finally leaving the institute and New York. I sigh in relief and lean back in my chair relaxing after a stressful day. Once I relaxed enough I get my phone out and put it up to my ear listening to the annoying ringing.
“Alexander dear? Is everything okay?”
“Yes it is. My parents have finally left.”
“Was it seriously that bad?”
“Listening to them lecture for almost five hours, yes, yes it was.”
“Awe well why don’t I come over until you’re off and then we can go on that date.”
“I’d love that.”
“Great! I’ll see you soon.”
I walk hand in hand with Magnus as we walk down the streets heading to a place I don’t know. Once I see a normal street sign and then see our apartment building I look over at Magnus questioning but all he does is give me a sly smile and continues to hold my hand all the way inside our apartment. He leads me to the patio outside and I see a table with two plates and a boutique of flowers in a vase. Surrounding us our candles and lights hanging around the edges of the roof and balcony with a great view of the city lights at night.
I smile at Magnus as he leads me to the table and opens the hooded dish on the side. Once he opens it I see he cooked chicken with rosemary on it with spaghetti and red wine. He pours me a glass and all night we eat, laugh and talk while we keep our left hands intertwined on the table while he slowly rubs his thumb over the back of my hand.
After awhile my gaze turns to the cities lights knowing there’s no where else I wanna be but here with Magnus, in our loft, in New York City. I slowly feel Magnus tug my hand and I turn my attention on him.
“You okay?”
“Yes, I just want to tell you something and ask something.”
“Okay?”
I watch as Magnus takes a deep breath and he slowly lets it out, he continues looking at the table in front of us when he starts to speak, “Alexander, we’ve known each other for a long time now. The first year went great until the break up but even after that we had mistakes. The second year we had the war and now that we are on our third year it’s been the best thing ever. Not being interrupted by anything and just having you by my side is one of the best things I’ve ever experienced.” Magnus says slowly looking up meeting my eyes. He takes my hand in his and continues talking,
“I know we had the talk about marriage and kids almost two weeks ago but you are who I truly want to be with. I wake up every day knowing your mine and that you will be mine forever and always and I could never think of anyone else to be with.
You’re one of a kind and I love your smile, laugh and even your sassiness and I could never tell you how much I love you.” Magnus says standing up and getting on one knee in front of me, “I love you Alexander Gideon Lightwood and that will never change in a thousand or plus years.” He continues as he pulls a box from his jacket and opens it up to reveal a black and silver wedding band that shines in the lights around. “Would you do the honor and marry me?” Magnus says looking me in the eyes and all I can do is silently nod my head as tears well up in my eyes.
Once he puts the ring on my finger we pull each other in a tight hug while I play with his hair and feel a couple tears land on his shirt. “I love you so much Magnus Bane.”
“I love you too Alexander. I love you too.”
