"Is it true that Maria Reynolds and yourself shared a kiss on the morning of July 25th?"
The words hit Eliza like a thousand knives to the stomach. Her mouth instantly dried and she couldn't form a single syllable in it. She shook her head violently in denial, hoping to God that they would put the accusations down to one of Maria's lying personalities. "We have a reliable witness saying otherwise, Nurse Elizabeth. I suggest you tell the truth or else you are in danger of a much harsher sentence for this crime." A gasp escaped Eliza's mouth and then a single word "yes." Who knew that three letters could make such an impact. Immediately, everyone in the room seemed to take a step away from her. Those words had damned Eliza to a fate worse than even death.
