“So umm, what’s your locker number?” I asked Adam, the silence as we walked down the hall was starting to get awkward.
“363”
“Oh, that’s by mine,” I started then turned left to head down the corridor towards my locker, “this way”
“Alright, coming” As we walked down the hallway I was starting to feel just a little awkward, in case you hadn’t noticed, I’m not used to all of the attention being on me. Even though the attention wasn’t on me now, it was on Adam, I was still feeling just a little awkward. But I seemed to be doing just fine under pressure, the pressure to act just like everyone else; I haven’t fallen over yet right?
“Are these our lockers?” Adam asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
“Oh yeah,” I said and turned to face my locker, somehow managing to trip over my own two feet and fall backwards in the middle of the hallway, I guess I spoke too soon. After falling over I couldn’t help but hear the entire crowd of students started to point and laugh. That crowd of students just happened to be almost every single student in the school thanks to Adam’s presence. If I was feeling awkward and embarrassed before that feeling in nothing compared to how I feel now, I’m almost 100% sure that my cheeks are redder than a tomato.
“Hey, are you okay?” I heard Adam say, looking up at him I see him offering his hand to help me stand again, I gladly accepted the help.
“Yeah, I’m fine” I said after I was back on my feet. With a slight nod of his head he bent down to help me pick up all of my books and papers that had somehow managed to fall out of my bag, I bent down to help as well. By this time the hallway was significantly emptier than it was a few minutes ago since it is almost time for homeroom and everyone needs to get to class. Opening my locker I put all of my books, papers and my bag in my locker I pulled out my books for my first few classes and shut my locker again.
“You got everything you need?” I asked Adam after slamming my locker shut.
“Umm I think so” he replied, closing his locker also, I couldn’t help but think that there is something I forgot to do, of course! How could I forget?
“Can I, umm, see your schedule?” I asked him, not really sure why I was nervous to do so, seriously it’s just a schedule.
“Yeah su-” he was cut off by the bell, “I guess I’ll give it to you in homeroom, which one are you in?” he asked me
“Room 15 with Mr. Thomas, what about you?”
“Same here” he replied, with a nod of my head I turned around and headed in the direction of homeroom. Turning around to make a comment about Mr. Thomas I noticed that Adam wasn’t standing behind me but rather he was still by his locker staring at his schedule.
“Adam,” I called back to him; he lifted his head and looked at me, “you coming or am I supposed to leave you behind?” I said before turning around and continuing in the direction of homeroom and asking myself where all of the confidence is coming from. I heard his quick footsteps that echoed off the walls of the empty hallway slow down as he approached me.
“You wouldn’t have really left me behind right?” he says walking next to me as we make our way to homeroom.
“Wouldn’t you like to know?” I say while sending a wink and a smirk in his direction, now I would seriously like to know where all of this confidence came from, it’s not me at all.
“But then I wouldn’t make it to homeroom”
“I’m sure you could find the class, there aren’t that many” my confidence still not fading.
