I finished my paper about five minutes before the final bell rang, so the last five minutes consisted of me staring at the clock waiting for the sound of the bell to release me from this room. Which eventually happened, even though it felt like hours, I was finally able to leave.

Standing up and putting all of my stuff back into my bag, I walked to the front of the class and put my paper on Mr. Thomas’ desk before heading out into the corridor. I started to walk faster as I heard the footsteps of Lucas and Jonathon behind me, keeping perfect time with each other. Maybe that’s a twin thing, oh yeah, Lucas and Jonathon are twins, not that it’s important in anyway. The twins continued to follow me through the corridors talking quietly among themselves.

“Do you think we could provoke a reaction out of her?” I heard Lucas ask Jonathon, no I mentally answered.

“Well maybe depends on if she’s got any guts,” Jonathon replied, I could practically hear the smirk in his voice as he uttered the words. Apparently my legs seemed to think that this deserved a retort as they stopped moving and instead turned to face the twins. Oh dear, what are you doing, the voice in my head asked, well more like pleaded. Though I did not listen to that voice right now, these boys needed to hear what I had to say, I was kind of tired of taking shit from these two.

“Listen here you two,” I said, surprising myself with the venom and strength in my voice, “I would like you to know, I am not a goody-two-shoes and I did in fact get myself into detention, it was not my choice,” I finished, giving the two of them the best glare that I could muster. It didn’t take long for them to recover from the obvious shock of me actually responding to them for the first time.

“Well then, little Ally, what did you do to get yourself in detention, please entertain us,” Lucas replied, the sarcasm dripping from his voice.

“Oh not much, just you know called the gym teacher a slut, she totally deserved it,” I replied in an off handed way, again surprising myself with the way I managed to utter the words.

“Aww Lucas look our little Ally seems to be growing a pair, how refreshing new that is,” Jonathon said as he slung an arm around my shoulder. Holding back a gag and a shudder at the unwanted contact, I simply shrugged off his arm before replying to his slightly insulting words.

“Boys, boys, just because my pair isn’t down there,” I said gesturing to their special area, “and is instead up here,” I gestured to the general area of my chest, “doesn’t mean they don’t exist,” I paused, “and just because they are much bigger than yours can and will ever be, doesn’t mean you have to be jealous,” I said before turning on my heel and walking away,

“See you around boys!” I called over my shoulder as I walked away. After turning the corner I leaned against the wall and took a deep breath, what on earth just happened, where did all of that confidence come from? These and about a million other questions swirled around in my head as I stayed leaning against the wall, catching my breath.

A few minutes later I had my breath back and I was about to walk out of the school’s front doors to start my semi short walk home. I didn’t mind the walk, it wasn’t too long and the weather was being nice, no rain at the moment. I was walking down the street in front of the school, about to put in my headphones and ignore the rest of the world, when I heard someone call my name. Turning around I saw that I was alone except for one other person, Adam.

“Hey Adam,” I said slowly, trying to figure out why he was talking to me.

“Hey, you walking home?” he asked, wow straight to the point, huh.

“Umm yeah,” I said, still not sure what his angle was, they always have an angle, even with small, simple questions like this.

“You sure you don’t want a ride?” he asked before pointing over his shoulder at the car he was standing in front of. I was about to accept when memories of Ryder giving me rides home before we dated flashed into my head.

“No I’m fine.” I told Adam, with maybe a little too much venom in my voice, I turned around and starting walking away again, but I managed to catch a small glimpse of the hurt expression on his face. Okay, so maybe that was a little harsh, but I didn’t need to be a charity case again, once in a lifetime was enough for that.

I put my headphones in so that I could ignore the world and walked home, without any further thought about Adam, rides or Ryder. But I couldn’t seem to get the look of Adam’s face after I snapped at him out of my head; I couldn’t have hurt him that much, right? I quickly dismissed the thought that I had actually hurt his feelings, he was probably just shocked at my reaction, yeah that was it. Right now all I needed was food and then some sleep, I felt emotionally and physically drained after today, it was a particularly interesting, and weird, day.

After I got home, I walked straight into the kitchen and made myself a sandwich before grabbing that and a packet of chips and heading upstairs to my bedroom. My dad wouldn’t be home to make dinner for at least a few hours, if I’m lucky, may as well eat something substantial, especially since I didn’t actually eat lunch today. When I got into my room I ate my food quickly before grabbing my sketch book before sitting down by the window and starting to draw some random doodles.
