Streets Hold Surprises

"Argh!" I muttered, storming out of the building. I spent the whole day in my office, trying to explain to those worthless adults how to code a simple robot! How hard is it to make a program that allows people to chat with a robot that always has something new to say?

"Useless." I murmured as I strolled down the pathways. Autumn made the park bloom in colors that other seasons are blind to. Vivid orange and red leaves rained down, dusting the floor nearby. With my hands, I forcefully wiped away the leaves that settled on the bench before plopping down myself.

My mind began to wander and observe common scenes in the park. A couple cuddling together on a picnic blanket while sharing a meal. A group of kids running around, cheerfully laughing and shouting. A little boy frolicking in the fields with his energetic puppy. These common usually soothe me, but with the load of stress I have, it only unnerved me.

I felt something cold ache in my heart. My palms began to sweat. I know what's wrong. It's because all of the others in the park seemed so happy and content. Except me. The cold, aching sensation grew larger. I can't take this anymore. My feet began to move before my brain could tell it to. My eyes were closed, blinded by tears and unable to see. The wind whipped wildly in face when a sudden pain jolts me to my senses.

"Ouchies!" I yelled. Another girl gasped,

"I'm so sorry! Are you alright?" Blinking rapidly, my vision finally cleared. Standing next to me was a girl with her black hair tied into a messy bun. Scowling, I silently cursed. Why does all the bad things in the world get directed to me? The girl's eyes drifted to my leg and she grimaced.

I followed her eyes and looked down. The moment I saw my leg, I forced myself to swallow my scream. My blood slowly oozed out of my leg. The pool of blood grew larger. My eyes became blurry with pain and my head began to ache.

"Here. Let my help you up." She extended her hand towards me. Weakly, I pulled myself up and limped towards the nearest bench. The girl dug around in her bag before fishing out something for my leg. She gave my hand a reassuring squeeze.

"This is going to hurt." Ugh, tell me something I don't know! I watched as she sprayed the disinfection spray onto my wound. I winced at the stinging pain, trying my best to hold back tears. The girl muttered an apology and slowly wrapped up my wound.

I became intrigued. I was well cared for, beloved, and praised for my brain. However, this girl, who doesn't know what I can do. She just cared about me. Not my brain. Not my wealth. Just me. The coldness in my heart was replaced with a sudden warmth. A feeling I never felt in my life.

"Th-thank you. What's you name?" I stuttered. I'm not use to socializing, especially not with people around my age. The girl smiled.

"Noel! It's nice to meet you..um...?"

"Alina. It's nice to meet you too Noel." I answered for her. Noel gave me sweet smile before finishing wrapping up my wound.

"Maybe we should meet up sometime? Where do you want to meet up?" I thought for a while.

"Here. Tomorrow, 3:00 PM? Is that ok with you?" Noel smiled,

"Of course!" She waved and left. All smile formed on my lips while I watched her get further and further away until you can't even see her.

"See you." I muttered, the smile never leaving my lips.
