"I was exiting the friday prayers when I noticed an elderly uncle praying. I froze where I stood and a hundred thoughts encircled my mind. Despite his age, his ailment, his life's circumstances, he remains unrelentingly committed to worshiping His creator. He said not a single word and made me reflect so much on my own life. He exuded humility. I keep revisiting what is true for me in this aggressive, addictive, unpredictable world. That in our hearts, there is a void that cannot be removed except with the company of God; and in it, there is a sadness that cannot be removed except with the happiness of knowing and being true to Him. That only He can fill the emptiness, not people. Not ever. I'm left to remember that God does not look at your appearance or wealth, rather he looks at your hearts and deeds. God grant us all the fortitude and steadfastness of our elders."
