I walk out of the house, just going with it for now. I am greeted with the sight of a perfect neighborhood. Too perfect. Every house identical, lush green grass, even the trees were identical. It seems so... artificial. Unreal.

I see Amber walking out of the house directly next to mine. She looks around, confused. She spots me and her eyes light up.

"Would you look at that! We're neighbors!"

"Yeah... what a coincidence."

How can anything be this perfect? How is nobody suspicious? Or maybe it's just all in my head. At this point I don't even know what normal is anymore.

"Um... Audrey?"

"Yeah?"

"Where is school?"

"Um...", I pause to look around. I see a very large building labeled 'School' in giant glowing letters.

"There.", I point.

"Damn the letters are huge. How did I not see that?"

I shrug. We both start to head to this newfound school.

"So, Audrey, tell me more about my past."

"Your past? That's what you're curious about?", I suddenly get very angry,"Not how you woke up one day and don't remember shit? Or how we just got plopped into some strange reality where everything is completely uniform? Or how somebody probably undressed us?!"

"My god, chill out."

"Sorry. It's just... everything is happening so fast, I have no idea what is going on, and I hate not knowing what's going on. Nobody remembers anything except for me; I feel like we're in a parallel universe or something. This is all so crazy but after the apocalypse I didn't think anything could surprise me, I didn't think anything could top that. But this is coming really close. Hell, I don't even know what the definition of normal is anymore!"

"I haven't thought of it that way. I can see your point." Her words are polite and calculated. I hate it.

"Why haven't you thought about it? How is it even possible not to? Why aren't you curious? Suspicious? Why don't you want answers? Why are you just going with it?"

"The Leader said to go with it. The Leader said don't ask questions. The Leader knows best."

"What? Why do you think that?"

"He just is. He said so."

"And you just believe it? What valid reason do you have as to why The Leader should be in control?"

"I don't need a valid reason. He just is."

"You can't truly believe that."

"Why not?"

"Because it doesn't make sense! None of this makes sense!"

"It doesn't have to."

"Why do you defend him?"

"He is a living god among us. You should be thankful. He gave us a second chance. All he expects in return is for us to obey him. I do. You should too."

"The hell? Amber, who told you that?"

"The Leader did."

"When?"
