through the lens

There are two pictures on my wall
Side by side
Like 2 different worlds about to collide
And what's significant about these images is not what is in the pictures
But rather
The person who took them

I remember the first

The happy day and the jokes and the laughter
You pulled out that ever present camera of yours
And captured the big goofy smile you put on my face

And the second

I never even knew you took it until you handed the Polaroid to me a week later

It was taken on a balcony in a city I don't care to mention with sky scrapers in the distance and the wind tangling my hair
I was looking out into the world
And all I could see were the possibilities of you and me

But like I said, what's in the pictures isn't important, but rather, the one who saw a moment worth capturing

And is no longer there to capture it
