*Sound track:This is something I thought I'd try out; I decided to pick a couple of songs to go along with certain parts in the book to emphasize the mood. I will try to provide this for every chapter where it feels necessary. I will put a star * where the song starts. They will be listed in order, and at the end of the chapter I will give a short summary of where they happen. You don't have to listen to them, but if you want to go ahead (:
1. Drown by Seafret
2. Fresh pair of eyes by Brooke Waggoner

It was a sip that killed her. A sip of some luscious liquid almost like poison, except unlike poison, this didn't kill her directly. What killed her was the failing hope of her husband's love. The failing hope my father's love, and of course a car that skidded across the pavement and smashed into her own. I remember that night clearly. The pain that laid heavy in my heart, never making an attempt to leave. I remember the police showing up to my door, about an hour after my mom had left. About an hour after the shouting, yelling and hitting had taken place. My father urged me into the other room so he could speak to the officers. It was a mess, a mess that no one bothered to clean up. Because you see, my father married the women he was seeing while my mom was alive, 1 year after it happened. He acted like an inconsiderate jerk. Threw all the furniture away because it was "out dated" according to my new step mom. Re painted the soft yellow tones to dark blue, and changed himself completely. Within that year, my sister Finley was born. All eyes were turned to her attention. After a few months, I was forgotten, out of the picture. Boom. Gone.
"Ken!"My father's voice echoed up to my room. I slowly emerged from my nest of blankets that were on my bed, and walked to my door. I opened it with a huff."What?" I yelled back. "I need you to take care of your sister tonight; your mom and I are going on a date." She's not my mom. "Yeah whatever." I said irritably. I walked towards the top of the stairs and started to make my way down. "Don't use that tone with your dad."Beatrice stated as I reached the last step. She had a straight face on, with cold eyes matching it.
"Don't try to parent me." I shot back before I realized what I had said. She didn't flinch at the words. Instead she just moved closer to me and grabbed one of my arms with a tight grip. "Parent you? Oh please."She released her hold and stepped back with a small chuckle just as my dad entered the room. My arm was sore from the contact "Everything alright here?"My dad asked, re adjusting his tie. He never wore this kind of stuff when mom was alive. "Fantastic actually, we should get going." Beatrice said, pulling on his arm. "Bye daddy!" Finley chirped, running from the family room towards him.My dad reached out his arms and caught her, lifting her up in the process. "Bye sweet pea, be good for your sister." He kissed her on the cheek and set her back on the ground. "No promises." She smirked. Fin ran back to where she was previously sitting in front of the TV. "Don't be too bossy." My dad pointed a finger at me and smiled. I knew he was joking, but a part of me felt like he meant it. I stifled a smile and shrugged.
They finally turned and left, and I made my way back up to my room. I honestly didn't give a fuck about what Finley did. I barely even talked to her anymore. No one seemed to want to talk to me anyways. I finally reached my room and I pulled open the door. My eyes adjusted to the bright purple on the walls. The old familiar scent of my mom wafted through the air. Her smell was barley there but I still liked to believe that it was. I lied back on my bed and put my headphones in my ears. *Seafret filled my head and the lyrics came to my lips by reflex. I stayed like that for a long time, until I drifted off to sleep.
"Are you kidding me?!" A strong hand grabbed my shoulder and started to shake me awake. I opened my eyes to see my father with a disapproving face and Beatrice staring back at me. "Hm?" I mumbled half awake. "Your sister was unsupervised and cut herself while trying to make a snack!" He shouted at me. "That's not my fault." I bluntly stated. "Oh it is your fault Kensington. We have to take her to the hospital now, but don't think that you're not responsible for this." Beatrice spat at me. She rolled her eyes with a huff and stormed out of the room. "You've got to try harder, Ken." My dad sighed. "Try harder?" I repeated with disbelief. I sat up to get a better view. My dad's face tensed up, knowing that I was going to lose my temper. "Maybe you should divorce Beatrice, and then I'll decide to try harder." I barked. "This isn't about Beatrice; this is about you being irresponsible." He stated. "Irresponsible. Finley is 7 fucking years old! She knows not to use knifes, and yet you blame her foolishness on me? Un-fucking believable." I roared out.
