Jack's pov

A chilly breeze blew into the house as the front door opened, more people spilling into the loud, cramped house. I felt tipsy, the taste of beer sitting sour in my mouth. Sloppily setting my red solo cup onto a kitchen counter, I shoved my way through the crowd to find my friend Sophia.

I found her yelling a toast in the living room and decided to talk to her later. I turned around and ran into a guy, automatically angering him. "Watch where you're going dumbass," He growled, towering over me. "Oh, pull a pole out of your ass." I tried to push past him. That pissed him off even more.

He grabbed me by my shirt and pulled me close, spitting in my face. I could smell the sick scent of cheap rum in his breath as he breathed heavily in my face like a drunk, pissy bulldog. "Who the hell drinks Bacardi? That shits cheaper than the rum your mom probably drinks." I laughed, my condescending humor enraging him to where he pushed me threw the back door and onto the damp grass outside.

"Yeah fuck you too, asshole." I yelled back, brushing off dirt from my hands and shirt. My eyes widened as I looked up too see a dark curly haired boy leaning against the side of the house, a cigarette hanging gently between his teeth. Glancing back inside he takes it and out and blows back out the smoke. "Bicardi?" He asks, motioning his head towards the door.

I nodded, standing up and brushing myself off some more. The dark haired boy who still stood in the shadows wore a leather jacket, ripped black skinny jeans, and a smirk on his face. I looked back at the parts of his face I could see in the dark and noticed his dark eyes looked worn and tired, but twinkled at me.

I looked around the yard and at the back gate where a few teens leaned against it, laughing about something I wasn't aware of. I heard a sigh and turned my attention back to the boy who had dropped the cigarette on the ground and stomped on it, shoving a lighter back into his pocket. "Sorry, forgot to offer you one." He smirked again, his curly hair that hung long around his shoulders blowing lightly with the wind.

"No, no...it's cool. I-uh-I don't smoke." I laughed nervously, looking down at the ground. The older boy's eyes were glued to me and I suddenly felt self conscious under his gaze. "I see." The boy replied slowly, seeming to pick out his words with precision and carefulness. He stuck out a bony hand covered in black, fingerless gloves. "Finn." He said, stepping forward slightly to reveal his face.

I stood in shock for a moment taking in the high cheekbones and the freckles that suited his face perfectly, my heart picking up pace. "Jack." I shook his hand, my voice sounding small compared to his deeper, raspier one. Finn smiled, making me blush slightly like an idiot. "You have uh-" Finn held up his hand toward my cheek, retreating it slightly when he saw me flinch a little before bringing it back up and saying, "-a little bit of dirt there."

My body shivered at his touch, and he noticed it, smirking again. "So here with someone special?" He raised an eyebrow, asking with a flirtatious tone. "Well, I came because it's my friend Sophia's party, but not with anyone." I bobbed my head as I talked, my cheeks growing warm with embarrassment that answer may have been unnecessarily specific. Finn laughed slightly, nodding his head in understanding.

"Yeah Sophia asked my band, Calpurnia, to play. Just finished my set." He replied, ruffling his hair a little. "A band? That's cool." I said, smiling with curiousness. Finn's eyes lit up slightly, glad I took interest. "Yeah, we cover a lot of 80's and 90's." He stepped closer as he spoke. "We even have a few originals. I write most of them." Finn stared deep into my eyes as he said this, my stomach fluttering with a sudden feeling of excitement.

"How-how do you write them?" I fidget with my fingers. He smiles, "well, It can be hard to find inspiration." He smirks, standing over me with his height, both intimidating and intriguing me. "Well, wh-wh-where do you find it?" I stutter, looking up at him with nervous eyes. "Through people around me." He smirks in a raspy voice, and I step back slightly as he comes closer. He smells of smoke, sweat, and woodsy cologne, a weird mix to create an addicting aroma.

"I bet the girls really dig the whole band thing." I laughed, almost stuttering under his stare. "Yeah, but I don't really focus on....girls." He said the last word with a smirk, looking down and then back up again. He was hot in a rugged type of way, but I felt uncomfortable by this thought. I'm not gay.

"You can come see us play sometime." His lips brushed mine and he hands me a crumpled flyer, turning around to walk away. "You'll come, won't you?" He winks, looking at me over his shoulder. "I'll-I'll think about it." I put the folded flyer in the pocket of my jeans and watch Finn smile before walking away.

I didn't know what just happened, but one word:
Damn.
