"All I'm saying is, that girl wouldn't know class if it walked up to her door with a shirt that said 'hi I'm class' written on it. and slapped her right across the cheek."
"And all I'm saying is you're wrong about her. I think she's perfect."
"Kyle, you need to open your eyes. You play football, she plays showtunes. You two don't belong together."
I hate school. I hate my friends. I wish I could change the way I started. I can't even think I could be with her. He's right. She plays music, I play sports. But is that really a crazy and nonrealistic thought? I mean, she would always be at the football games to cheer me on, and I never have practice on Saturdays so I could go to her competitions. We could work. I just need to convince her that.
~~~School the Next Day~~~
"Naomi!! Look what I found in the band room!" Amy yells.
"Is that music I see in your hands?" I ask.
"Yes!! And its the new concert band music for the christmas concert," she says.
"Jazz band?" I ask.
"Jazz band," she concludes.
"I've been waiting months for this!!" I yell.
"I know, that's why I had to show you right away," she says.
"Thank you so much, I know what I'm doing in jazz today," I say as I wink.
I walk to my homeroom like I do everyday. On my way there I run face first into my biggest crush.
"Oh, sorry," he smirks.
"I-it's o-ok," I stutter looking into his eyes.
"Here, let me get that for you," he bends down and grabs my Honors Algebra 2 book off the ground and hands it to me.
"Oh, th-thanks," I say as I rub the new growing bump on my head.
"Looks like I might have given you an injury," he laughs as he scratches the back of his head. I think I see a hint of peach blotched on his face ever so slightly. "Here, I'll walk you to the nurse."
"Oh, no it's fine really. I can walk there myself," I decline.
"It's the least I could do, since I caused all of this," he looks at me shyly.
I didn't even have time to answer and he was guiding me down the hallway to the nurse. I just let it happen. I felt as if I was floating on a cloud and he was the wind moving me through the atmosphere. We made it to the nurse and he explained that he had bumped me in the hallway and she took a look at my bump.
"Well, it's not the best looking thing, but its not serious. Take this ice pack and and keep it on till 4th period," she orders.
"Yes ma'am, thank you," I say.
The two of us walk out of the nurse's office and he asks where my homeroom is.
"Room 215," I answer.
"I'll walk you there, just to make sure no one else walks into you," he laughs down the hallway.
"N-no it's fine, I can make it to homeroom from this distance," I say.
"You su-," he gets cut off but one of his friends.
"Yo Kyle! You coming?" he yells.
"Really it's fine, it looks like you're needed anyway," I say. I walk away as fast as I can and make it to homeroom just on time. Why was he being so nice to me? Especially during football season.
Kyle's POV
"Austin, I was kind of busy," I say glaring at him.
"I've told you once and I'll tell you again. You cant be with her. She isn't in out socal status," he replys.
"I dont care how many times you tell me to 'stay away from her' or 'you can't be with her' it's my choice, not yours," I retort.
"Fine, do what you want, but I'm not going to pick you off the ground when you get crushed," he snorts.
"I won't need you too, because I know what I'm doing," I say as i walk into my homeroom.
"why cant he just understand that we aren't any higher than anyone else just because we play a certain sport," I think to myself.
~~~1st Period~~~
Honors Algebra 2The bell rings signaling the end of homeroom and the start of first period. Honors Algebra 2. Math has to be one of my favorite classes. Naomi being in it is just a perk. I get to class and sit on my seat. I get my textbook out and think of when i bumped into her as she walks into the classroom. She takes her usual seat behind me and sets up her desk the way she always does. Textbook in the left corner of her desk, pencil at the top, other assignments to the right. Today, that section is filled with the stats project we have due for today. "How Many Instruments Do You Know?" the margin reads.
"Okay class, today we will begin by reviewing how to solve algebraic equations," Mrs. Tanner says.
~~~2nd Period~~~
Concert Band/ GymThe bell rings and it's time to ponder off to gym. I love this part of the day, because I get to walk next to Naomi the whole length of the school, when we split, she goes to concert band, while I go to gym class.
"Amy!" she yells as she runs out of the classroom past me.
"What! Did something happen?" Amy asks overwhelmed.
"Yes, I forgot to grab m-," her voice grows to faint for me to hear as she walks at a steady pace down the hall in front of me.
I look at her feet walking in perfect unison with Amy's as they strut down the hallway. Her feet roll effortlessly and swiftly. They don't make a single sound as they make contact with the floor.
"Kyle, that's not the way to gym," someone from behind me says.
"Oh, I got lost in thought I guess," I laugh.
"Or you got lost in a path. You were following so close behind and blindly I don't think you realized it was time for you to turn," Shawn says.
"Yeah, I guess so. Hey, you're in band right?" I ask.
"Yes, marching and jazz, why," he answers.
"What's she like in there. Is she a totally diffrent person?" I question.
"No, she is herelf all the time. Look we havr to get to gym now or we get a zero for the day. We can talk about this later," he urges me to the locker room where second period awaits me.
