Naomi's POV
We begin to clean up as the period is coming to an end. I put my sax away in my case and beging to walk up the steps.
"Hey Naomi! Can you come look at this real quick?" Amy calls me over to her. I walk over to her side of the room.
"What's the matter?" I ask.
"What is this note?" she asks.
"Um, your instrument is written in a different key then mine so I can't answer your question." I say.
"No, Shawn stop PUSHING me!" someone yells from the upper section of the band room.
All of a sudden Kyle appears out of nowhere with Shawn following close behind. Kyle locks eyes with me then quickly looks away. I think I see a flash of pink in his cheeks.
"Attention fellow band memebers! My friend has something to say," Shawn yells. He motions toward Kyle and gives him a tiny shove forward.
"Um, hello people that I don't talk to," he gives a slight wave. "Apparently I have something to say. I know what I want to say but, wether I'm actually going to be able to say it is another story."
His eyes flutter to me with every other word. The tint of his face grows more and more red as he speaks.
"I am just here for moral support. I mean, we all know that the period is almost over and that there is very little time to tell someone something right now. Especially if it can't wait any longer," Shawn says, giving Kyle a push after every few words.
Kyle sighs, looks up to the ceiling and takes a deep breath.
Kyle's POV
I can barely breath. My chest feels as if it is being squeezed tighter with chains everytime I inhale. My hands are shaking, continually getting worse as my anxiety gets worse.
I sigh, lift my head and take a deep breath.
"So, I have this crush, on this girl. She's in this room," my eyes flutter to every girl in the room besides Amy and Naomi.
"Oh Kyle. It's about time you came to your senses," Stacy laughs.
"Oh um, Stacy it's not you," I say quickly.
"It will be someday, whether you like it or not," Stacy screams.
She storms up the steps and stops right in front of me. The look in her eyes is pure hatred as she glares at Amy and Naomi. She lifts up her 6 inch stiletto heel and slams it down into the middle of my foot.
"Have fun playing football now scumbag," she hisses and walks out of the band room.
I let a gasp of pain out and lift my foot up into my hand.
"Oh, geez dude. Are you ok?" Shawn asks with real concern in his voice as other people in the room gasp in surprise.
"Ah, haha yeah," I say as I slowly place my foot down. The pain is still there but it is fading.
"Ok, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have forced you in here," Shawn says.
"No. You're right. It has to be done," I say. I walk (or waddle) down the steps and up to Naomi. I stop right in front of her and stare into her colorful hazel eyes.
Naomi's POV
Kyle wobbles down the steps of the band room and hobbles over to me. He stops right in front of me and looks into my eyes. I stare back at him, just as intently to hide the nervousness in my almost shaking body.
"OK. Naomi, do not start shaking, yes the love of your life is standing right in front of you and looks very lost in your eyes. DO NOT RUIN THIS MOMENT," I scream in my head.
"Naomi, I've... I-I've liked you for awhile now. Almost two years to be exact. I would have said something sooner but, the whole football team kept telling me to suppress the feeling and that nothing was special about you. But I always knew deep in my heart they were wrong. You are special. You are extraordinary, and I can't stand another minute without you by my side," Kyle says.
I'm frozen, my mouth hanging wide open.
"I-I don't k-know wha-what to s-say," I stutter barely being able to breath.
The bell rings and 6 football guys run into the band room.
"Kyle, Shawn. Let's go," one of them says.
"We're kinda busy right now," Shawn says.
One of them walks down the steps and grabs Kyle by the arm. He starts to pull him away and Kyle tries to stop him. He stomps on Kyle's injured foot and Kyle gives up fighting.
"WAIT!" I scream. "Who do you people think you are, barging into here like that and causing yet another scene to disrupt our calm flow. Let him go."
"And what are you going to do if I don't?" he taunts.
I recognize his voice. I notice the scar on the underside of his chin. The thing about me is, no one knows I've been trained from a very young age to be a fighting machine. I was put through extreme measures to make sure I was ready for anything. I don't like people knowing because it causes issues. I take jobs to support my family. My dad isn't in the picture, killed many years ago, my mom still in shock and can't make herself do anything. I have 3 younger siblings and I'm the oldest. This man who had a hold of Kyle, was from a previous job my dad took before he died. Correction, the job that got him killed.
"Naomi, it's alright. It's just a little pain," Kyle says with his cute but dumb smile.
"That's what I thought. Stick to your pink dresses and flower crowns little girl, you mean nothing to us," the man says. He continues to drag Kyle up the stairs and pulls him out of the band room. I'm frozen yet again, my feet cemented to the ground. Shawn is nowhere to be seen and all of the band kids started to fade.
"What kind of job did my dad take?" I turn around to see Abby frozen in place, he face beginning to be see through. The halls are silent. No one is moving, my breathing the only sound in the now lifeless school.
"Guess you were one of them too." a familiar voice says from behind me. I turn around to be greeted by Shawn. "Kyle must be valuable to them in some way. You and I are the only ones capable of stopping them. You with me?"
"If it means saving him and everyone else, I'm in," I say.
